ISSA probes eligibility of D'Cup players
Two schools withdraw from competition

MONTEGO BAY, St James - Several schools taking part in the schoolboy daCosta Cup football competition face stern sanctions from the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) if they are found to have violated rules laid out for taking part in the competition.
Schools found to have flouted the laws could lose points or be expelled from the competition which started last weekend.
Reports reaching the Observer are that checks are being carried out on a zone-by-zone basis where grades and attendances are being examined to see if they comply with ISSA's minimum requirements.
These minimum preconditions for students to take part in sports are 45 per cent in four subjects and 80 per cent attendance in the previous school year.
It was also learned that the standards of the fields used by some schools are being checked out as some are thought to fall below minimum standards in conditions of the surfaces as well as measurements.
Meanwhile, the schedule of matches in Zone B will be amended following the late withdrawal of two schools, Knockalva Technical and Merlene Ottey High this week.
These withdrawals leave just four schools in the zone - Rusea's High, Anchovy High, Frome Technical and Irwin High, who were switched from Zone A this season.
The withdrawal resulted in just one game being played on Wednesday, with Anchovy beating Irwin 2-1 to take the early lead.
There have also been changes in Zone C and E after Black River High, who were originally drawn in Zone C, were moved back to Zone E where they have played for a number of years.
The decision was made after the withdrawal of BB Coke and Maggotty from Zone E, thus facilitating Black River.
ISSA has set a limit of seven schools per group in the daCosta Cup to prevent overcrowding.
