MONTEGO BAY - Former champions Clarendon College and Frome Technical High will this afternoon be seeking their second straight win in the quarter-finals of the ISSA/Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup Schoolboy football competition and a place in the semi-finals.
Both schools were winners in Saturday's opening round of the quarter-finals and wins today would ensure they progress to the top four to be played next Saturday.
Clarendon College will face a potentially dangerous Garvey Maceo in a Group One all-Clarendon clash at Brancourt while Frome Technical and Titchfield will meet at Drax Hall.
Glenmuir High will start favourites against Rusea's High in the other Group One clash at St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) while quarter-final debutants Bog Walk High and Denbigh High meet at Dinthill Technical.
Clarendon College are coming off a 2-0 win over Rusea's where they dominated the game from start to finish but found the goals hard to come by.
The Clarendon defence will have their hands full in trying to contain the competition's leading scorer, Ashton Bennett who has eight goals so far while Rudolph Brown and Danielle Callagan will also be in the hunt to get on the score sheet.
Clarendon will have their own fire-power with Gregory Lewis and Nepfa Stewart, scorers on Saturday. They will be supported by Damali Samuels and Andrew Garvey who are able to create and score chances of their own.
At Drax Hall, Frome have had the better of Titchfield in their last two meetings and today coach Boysie Nicholson is hoping to extend the streak.
Frome had beaten Titchfield in the semi-finals in the 2004 season and also eliminated the Portland school in the Ben Francis KO in the 2003 season.
Frome are expected to be at full strength today for the first time since the end of the regular season and this will be a big boost for Nicholson and the expected hundreds of supporters who are expected to travel from western Westmoreland.
Kesrick Samuels is expected to return after sitting out Saturdays' 3-2 win over Denbigh while midfielders Delano Rankine and Obrian Woodbine and striker Sedane McCreath are expected to have recovered from niggling injuries.
The Andrew Edwards-coached Titchfield have had a solid season so far and with the exception of their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Clarendon College in the Ben Francis KO semi-finals.
Today Edwards will expect Romaine Benjamin, national Under-17 captain Dever Orgill, Oshane Spalding and Masekella Cato to take the game to Frome.
At STETHS, eight-time winners Rusea's must dig deep in their reserves if they are to avoid a second straight defeat in the quarter-finals and their third loss in a row after they had also gone down to Petersfield High in a meaningless Inter-Zone round game last Wednesday.
Rusea's have not scored in their last two games and could have problems keeping the prolific James Thomas and Trevol Smith out of their danger zone.
After scoring five time sin the first two Inter-Zone games, Rusea's have seen their goal flow dry up and coaches Emerson 'Diggy' Henry and Anthony 'Follies' Williams will have to come up with a solution to this before it is too late.
At Dinthill, Bog Walk and Denbigh will be seeking a historic win and one that could keep them in contention for a place in the top four.
Today's games:
Group One
Garvey Maceo vs Clarendon College @ Brancourt
Rusea's vs Glenmuir @ STETHS
Group Two
Bog Walk vs Denbigh @ Dinthill Tech.
Frome Tech. vs Titchfield @ Drax Hall
