Wednesday, October 17, 2007
MALVERN, St Elizabeth - Munro College secured their place in the Ben Francis Knock-out competition when a 2-0 win over Maggotty gave them Zone E honours in the ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel rural area daCosta Cup competition in Malvern yesterday.
Goals from Swaine McLeash and Michael Samuels took Munro to 22 points, and combined with Lacovia's upset 3-1 win over second-placed St Elizabeth Technical, ensured the Hopeton Gilchrist-coached team cannot be caught.

All 12 Zone winners will qualify for the Ben Francis KO, with the winners of Zone B, C, H and L getting first-round byes.
Munro, beaten finalists in the Ben Francis contest in 2002, join Spalding as the only schools that have already secured their places in the KO.
Meanwhile, the race for the Inter-Zone places in Zone K continue to be close as four schools, separated by just two points, vie for the two spots.
Annotto Bay's 2-0 win ousted Oracabessa from first to third spot as the winners and Brimmervale, who beat St Mary High by the same margin, are now tied for the lead on 24 points.
St Mary Technical stayed in contention, moving to 22 points, one behind Oracabessa after beating Iona High by the same 2-0 margin.
Clarendon College's Damali Samuels scored six times as the former champions romped to the day's largest margin - 8-0 over Thompson Town - for their eighth straight win in Zone H.
Yesterday's half-dozen goals took his tally to 14 of the season as Kevon Richards and Andel Callman scored the other goals.
Defending champions Glenmuir High moved into second place in Zone I on 13 points, seven behind leaders Garvey Maceo but with two games in hand after a 6-0 blanking of Bustamante High.
Jon-Ross Doyley scored two while team captain James Thomas, Ramon Whittaker, Kashmar Briscoe and Ricardo Webb scored the others.
Garvey Maceo moved to 20 points at the top, just two points from securing an Inter-Zone spot after edging Old Harbour 1-0 at Soya Oval, thanks to a Ashton Bennett goal.
Cornwall College opened up a five points gap over St James High in Zone A after clipping Herbert Morrison High 1-0 in horrible underfoot conditions at Bogue.
Radcliff hall scored his eighth goal of the season in the 33rd minute.
On a field that had water puddles up to six inches deep in some spots, both teams went through the motions as it was impossible for either to play any semblance of a passing game on a surface that should never have been used for a schoolboy game.
The Herbert Morrison field which has been prone to flooding in the last three years or so and the conditions have been worsened by the heavy rains that has affected the area in the last month or so.
In another Zone A game played in Martha Brae, Irwin continued their best ever season, winning for the third time beating William Knibb 2-0 with goals from Eion Brown and Bobsey McKellar.
