Burrell's Things To Do List: WEBCASTS OF JAMAICA HOME GAMES

One of the items on Horace Burrell's agenda should be LIVE VIDEO WEBCASTS (pay per view) OF JAMAICA HOME GAMES.

Yesterday was the season opener for my beloved Milwaukee Admirals, who lost 4-2 to the Peoria Rivermen at Peoria. I watched the webcast on B2 Networks, who has been webcasting American Hockey League games for at least the past three years.

The cost is $6 per game, or $120 for an entire season. A season pass
gives you access to all AHL games, (30 teams) plus game highlights of your favorite team sent to your e-mail.

Signup, for a game or a season, only takes one page, you only need to type in your name, address, e-mail, and credit card number.

The only drawback is there are no replays once the game has ended, and signup starts only 10 minutes prior to game time.

B2 also webcasts the four other US minor pro hockey leagues which start play later this month, plus two amateur junior leagues.

Also, B2 carries college sports. On the main menu, there was football, soccer, and volleyball. The quality is very good.

Bruce, I am not sure the Captain can do this. The reason being is that CFU owns the rights to all the qualifying games for team in our region. Whatever money they make from the games is split between the member federations.

Boxhill and company tried to break away from that arrangement about a year ago and Jack Warner wanted to hang them.

If something like this were to be done, it would have to start at the CFU level as i do not think the good Captain will want to rock Jack's boat after he gets back in office in November.

Bruce: This is a great idea. As Tilla pointed out there are other contractual arrangements in the way...but, nothing that cannot be negotiated, if not away...to mutual beneficial interests.

There could be a start with NPL (ooooh that will have to begin...to have a new beginning between the new JFF administration and the PLCA to straignten out interbodies-relations and intrabodies-relations - JFF Committees handle some PLCA oversight functions...and, PLCA given approval to handle on behalf of the JFF some duties? - Checks and balances if this PLCA struggles and or fails?) and some entities...CFU, Concacaf, FIFA, SportsMax, Nationawide Network, RBSC, etc...everyone getting a piece of the pie? ...from World Cup, CFU, CONCACAF, through Jamaica national teams webcast!

Why not?
Some Jamaicans are extremely insular and short-sighted and the old "why do I need you" argument will rare its head...totally ignoring the possibilities of wider markets - rapid exposure/markets penetration - and therefore larger dollars return!

...but we shall see!
