W H I T E H O U S E , Westmoreland — The management of three-time National Premier League (NPL) champions Reno FC is delighted after receiving a sponsorship cheque of $500,000 from Sandals Resorts International (SRI) at their Whitehouse property Sunday afternoon.
Director of operations for Sandals Resorts, Brian Roper, said the two-year sponsorship deal is the latest addition to the SRI’s outreach programme.
“We have an enormous outreach programme that we do, because as responsible citizens we think it is our responsibility to look after our community. Today (Sunday) we are adding Reno Football Club as part of our successful outreach programme,” he said.
“Sandals is very, very proud to be associated with Reno Football Club. We are very pleased to be a sponsor... we hope that this (money) will help them in the league,” Roper added.
Roper noted that Sandals, which has been voted the world’s best all-inclusive chain for the past 13 years, has been “involved with Reno in a small way last year”, but decided to raise the bar this year.
“(Last year) we provided them with meals on match days and provided them with facilities to train and so on,” Roper noted.
He also pointed out that five Reno players were employed at the Whitehouse resort, while noting that 600 members of the staff were residents from the surrounding community.
“The community is the life blood of Sandals Whitehouse. We started here over two years ago and won success after another. The community that we are lucky enough to be placed in, has provided us with 600 of the finest employees that we have in our entire chain throughout the Caribbean,” Roper explained.
Meanwhile, public relations officer and coach of the Reno Football Club, Aaron Lawrence, was elated over the sponsorship.
“The players can’t ask for more motivation than this. I think it is one of the greatest things that Sandals has done to sports in general and I think that other corporate people should look at this,” urged the former Jamaica goalkeeper.
