  • No decision yet from Greenwood

FIFA are yet to receive Mason Greenwood’s formal application to switch his international registration from England to Jamaica.

Greenwood, according to sources, has decided he wants to represent the Reggae Boyz, who have made no secret of their intentions to persuade the striker to play for them.

The 23-year-old, who is of Jamaican descent, has impressed since joining Marseille in the summer - scoring five goals in six Ligue One appearances so far.

Mason Greenwood has been enjoying a strong start at Marseille which could bear international fruit with Jamaica

But, as of Wednesday night, FIFA were still waiting for Greenwood to file his ‘change of association request’ ahead of anticipated switch to Jamaica.

Greenwood has fallen out of the England picture owing to his well-documented off-the-pitch problems but has been handed an international lifeline by Steve McClaren, who is in charge of Jamaica.

Greenwood has one senior England cap, which came against Iceland in 2020. He was sent home after the game in Reykjavik, together with Phil Foden, for bringing women back to the team hotel.

If you read or listen to the Jamaican media, the Greenwood deal done and dusted.
Since you are citing Reuters...I will believe this over the other sources.
The only time TRUTH will hurt you...is if you ignore it long enough

Mason Greenwood gives up on England recall and switches international allegiance

Mason Greenwood has decided to close the door on England and has switched his international allegiance to Jamaica.

Greenwood made the decision after the FA made it clear he wouldn't be considered for selection again, ending his hopes of adding to his one cap which he earned back in 2020. The Three Lions' stance emerged after Greenwood was suspended by Manchester United - his employers at the time - when he was charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour three years ago.

Mason Greenwood makes major Man United reunion decision as 'paperwork completed' before huge move

Mason Greenwood has reportedly completed the necessary paperwork to switch international allegiances from England to Jamaica.

Greenwood, 23, can represent the Caribbean country through his paternal grandparents. Fifa rules allow the player to switch because he only played in one competitive match for the Three Lions. Gareth Southgate gave Greenwood his senior England debut as a second-half substitute during a Nations League match away against Iceland in September 2020.

At the time, that appearance would have made Greenwood ineligible to play for another national team. But coincidentally, a fortnight later, Fifa's annual congress approved a rule change to make its regulations less restrictive to players who played in fewer than four competitive games for a national team before turning 21.

The requisite three years a player must wait before switching eligibility passed in early September 2023. Sixteen months later, the Daily Star reports that Greenwood has switched international allegiances.
