U-23 Boyz seek win over B'dos in qualifiers... After thrashing Antigua and Barbuda 6-1
    published: Tuesday | September 11, 2007

    ORANJESTAD, Aruba (CMC):
Following its crushing 6-1 victory over Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday, Jamaica's Under-23 football team will hunt another victory today when they challenge Barbados in their second Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Group B Olympic qualifying match at Complehjo Deportivo Stadium in Aruba.

Both teams enter the match with a win under their belt as Jamaica pumped in six goals to beat Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados also won when the qualifiers got under way on Sunday, knocking off the hosts, Aruba, 2-0 in the opening group game.

With a solid and confident display, Jamaica's young Reggae Boyz, the bulk of their unit coming from their Pan Am Games silver-medal winning side in Brazil in July, shot ahead 3-1 by half-time.

Troy Smith opened their scoring on eight minutes and after Ken Pennyweather equalised for the Antiguans in the 21st minute, Jamaica responded with goals from Ricardo Cousins (26th) and Keammar Daley (45th) before half-time.

Nicholy Finlayson (51st), Eric Vernon (65th) and Steven Morrissey (70th) added goals after the break to make the game sure for the Jamaicans who, like Barbados, are uneasy this trip and had complained about 'adverse conditions' in accommodation and food.

    Netting the goals
Seventeen-year-old schoolboy Brett Carrington and England-based Miles Jones netted the goals for Barbados to sink the home side, which play Antigua and Barbuda in today's round of matches.

The group winners will join Trinidad and Tobago, the Group A champions, and the Group F winners Bahamas in the next stageof CFU Olympic qualifying.

Other CFU groups are being contested in Cuba, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The top finishers in each group will progress to the CFU's second round that consists of two three-team groups scheduled for next month. The winners of each triangular group will then progress to the CONCACAF Under-23 Final Round series, which will qualify two teams to the 2008 Beijing Olympics

    Done deal.
Young Boyz advance to the next round of 2008 Olympic qualifiers with a 1-nil win over Barbados.
Richard Cousins scored the only goal in the first half.
The Downswell-coached Young Boyz only need a draw against the host Aruba on Thursday to complete their task.

We should reward Aruba for providing those fine accomodations and fabulous dining.

By "mist" do you mean the chances went up in a cloud of vapor?

oh thank you tilla, anyway antigua v aruba 2-0.The big surprise yesterday was the dominican rep hold haiti to a 0-0 draw, this mean that haiti needs a win.If the game ended 2-2 st kitts go through,or 1-1 st kitts can go though as well.both haiti and the dominican rep were flooded with overseas players.
