Any goodies for the western Burrellites?
Interesting times are ahead for our football, particularly here in western Jamaica as the second Horace Burrell administration gets ready to take over the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) in November.
For despite a release last week denying that he has started putting a slate of candidates together, word on the ground is that Burrell is busily putting together a newlook executive, and names are being bandied about as to who will fill important positions.
Very few of these names are from western Jamaica and it leaves one to wonder about the football future of the very vocal pro-Burrell faction here.
Given the limited number of places available in the JFF executive and the number of persons climbing all over each other to get noticed, it is clear that some people’s feelings are going to get hurt. The names we are hearing are:
* Manchester’s Dale Spencer for first vicepresident;
* Raymond Anderson of St Mary for third vice-president;
* Portmore United’s Wayne Sinclair, a banker, for treasurer.
Sinclair is a newcomer to this level of football but Spencer and Anderson were members of the Burrell slate that lost in 2003.
It is understood that another Burrell loyalist, Lorraine Scringer, president of the Hanover FA, will be nominated for the post of executive officer.
We are also hearing, however, that former FIFA referee, the very popular Peter Prendergast, is also up for that post.
It may be woman time elsewhere, but it is unlikely that Scringer would be able to beat Prendergast in a voteoff at this level.
That leaves just one other position vacant –– second vice-president –– for which many names are being

Boxhill’s unexpected withdrawal or nonnomination for the post of president has created an interesting situation as no one seems to have contemplated a no-contest.
Given all the promises that no doubt have been made to the respective delegates, it will be interesting to see how all these promises will be delivered.
The effect will be felt even at the local level as Everton Tomlinson, the long-time chairman of the Western Confederation, was expected

to be rewarded by being moved into one of the vicepresident spots, leaving St James FA president Orville Powell to take his old place.
Tomlinson could find himself in an interesting position as while his elevation appears highly unlikely now it appears there are other candidates lining up for the Confed chairmanship.

Linnell McLean of Trelawny has been caught between a rock and a hard place. He was second vicepresident in the Boxhill administration and it was a surprise to many when his FA backed Burrell's nomination. Now it appears he will be relegated to the lower leagues as there does not seem to be any place for him in the new administration.
