SAV-LA-MAR, Westmoreland - Clarendon College and Petersfield High shared the honours at Saturday's Victor Lowe sponsored Mannings School one day pre- season schoolboys football tournament played in Sav-La-Mar.
Rain and bad light prevented the playing of the finals between Clarendon College and Petersfield and the organisers decided to share the prize money and trophy after a long and exciting day of football watched by a large crowd.
Clarendon College had beaten Godfrey Stewart High 4-1 on penalty kicks in one semi-final after the teams had played to a 0-0 draw in their 30-minute game, while Petersfield eliminated hosts Mannings 4-1 on penalties in the other semi-final.
DaCosta Cup champions Glenmuir, who also won the tournament last year, failed to get out of the group stages after losing both games, 1-0 to Clarendon College and on penalties to Mannings.
Seven of the eight invited teams showed up, Mannings, Glenmuir and Clarendon were drawn in one group while Godfrey Stewart, Frome Technical, Petersfield and Little London occupied the other.
Grange Hill was the other team that was invited but failed to show up.
The teams used the one-day tournament as part of their preparations for the upcoming schoolboy football season that kicks off on September 15 with a triple-header at Jarrett Park.
