Jamaica to receive first round bye in CONCACAF qualifiers Print
Friday, 24 August 2007
1998 qualifiers, Jamaica, is among the 13 nations that will receive a first-round bye for the CONCACAF qualifying competition for the 2010 World Cup, and will begin their campaign in June of next year.
Based on the FIFA rankings in May, the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, Guatemala, Canada, Guyana and St. Vincent and the Grenadines will receive first-round byes.
22 nations will be slotted into home-and-home pairings during the World Cup qualifying draw on November 25 in Durban,
South Africa.
The 11 winners will draw against the top 12 seeds in the second round, which will likely begin in June.
The 12 second-round winners advance to the semifinals, which will retain the same format from 2006 qualifying, with three groups of four.
The top two teams in each semifinal group advance to the six-nation regional finals.
The top three teams in the finals qualify for the 32-nation World Cup final.
The fourth placed team will meet the fifth-place team from South America in a home-and-home playoff for another berth.
Jamaica's coach Bora Milutinovic says his priority is the opponents the Reggae Boyz will face.Winning means you're willing to go longer, work harder, and give more than anyone else - Vince Lombardi

Cayman Islands, St Lucia, Barbados, Suriname, Belize etc........ will kick off concacaf qualifying. BTW, Jamaica is ranked 11th in concacaf & SVG 12th. The strongest unranked team is El Salvador....Winning means you're willing to go longer, work harder, and give more than anyone else - Vince Lombardi

This will be excellent news for Captain Burrell. I can just imagine the gears in his brain lining up football friendlies for the Reggae Boyz.
I bet between January and before Jamaica's first qualifier in June the Reggae Boyz will have played double the games in that time compared to the years that like the Clueless Creston Brainless Boxhill era.
