We had a contingent of about 20-25 Voyageurs from Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, London and Winnipeg and managed to be fairly loud despite our low numbers. Attendance seemed quite decent and the announced attendance of 6500 seemed a bit low to me as the General Admission section was pretty much full and the other side was about 2/3rds full. I have been to several sold-out Impact games where the attendance is announced as 13 500 and there is maximum 1000 more people in the stadium than there were today. The Impact do include given away tickets in their calculations whether the people show up or not (I don't think I have ever seen the other side more than 2/3rds full even in sold out games) but the disparity seems too extreme. The crowd was definitely pro-Canadian (well over 90%) with a smattering of Jamaica fans throughout. The Jamaican fans were actually pretty cool and very gracious in defeat. The negative was that there was no merchandise booth and unlike Impact games they only opened one concession stand which had a huge lineup, ie. one could not buy Canada shirts/scarfs and beer/food was only to be had if one didn't mind missing a significant portion of the game standing in line. A big loss in revenue for the CSA.

Someone suggested that field conditions affected the game but I don't think this was the case. There was a very light misty rain at times but never a significant rainfall. If anything favoured the Jamaicans it was that the CCR field is a bit on the small side which favoured the less technically gifted side. The Jamaicans reminded me a bit of the Belize team although certainly a step up from them, ie. physically quite gifted but lacking in technique. Yet they were very well organized and seemed well prepared and well coached. This was in contrast to our team, far superior technically yet totally disorganized, unprepared and poorly coached. We had 6 days of practice for this friendly and I certainly question what was accomplished. Certainly not a lot of time was spent on team tactics. All in all considering who we called and that most of Jamaica's top players were not there this was a very poor performance, victory or not. Teams like this we should be beating 3-0 yet this game could have easily been 1-1. Add in CONCACAF reffing which today was poor as usual, not biased but incompetent and not in control of the game and we just can not afford to perform like this. I think today's game shows that no matter who we put on the field and where they are playing we still need a very good coach. Once again like so many times before we were outcoached and were only fortunate

Dont take this report seriously. This is more of an anti- hart report than anythig. I have seen this canadian side played many times and I can say this is as organised and attractive I have seen them . Keep in mind Harty was in TT with the U 17 and came back a few days before. When we had the ball and was passing in the back we were going backwards and square so hart and the team did the right thing and stayed behind as we would then give away the ball cheaply. From the man comparing us to belieze you know a idiat that. Also smaller fiedl will lend itself to the more tecnnical team... Hart did a good job its just the scotts man way of ruling out a Trini or non Scottish status quo is given the head coach job....

      Error here OJ.

A smaller field favours the less gifted team.It allows for quicker closing down of players...the superior tactical playerfindshimself...consistently with little time and spacewithin which to operate...

...and, gives the player with poor touch greater opportunities to actually come into contact with man and with ball.

The superior tactical player can often fairly beatthe inferior player...but the 'tightness' of the field means that superior player is always at less than his best as 'physical bombardment' is constant...thus balance, touch, etc. is disrupted....and, passing space - both to receive and deliver the ball is often nonexistent because of proximity of bodies.

Very important - On the smaller field the technically poor playercan deceive the onlooker into believing he is a good passer as most of the passes he attempts travels relatively short distances. Poor accuracy in passing becomes more descernable when the ball travels relatively long distances.

Secondly the ability to properly 'weight' passes requires greater technical skill as the distances between the passer and the intended target increases.

Larger fields demand greater technical skills...greater discipline in playing/carrying out roles...greater tactical awareness.

I noticed that some of my Voyageur posts were posted here so I thought I would post myself. OJ your post is basically ridiculous, if you think that was organized soccer that Canada played you know absolutely nothing about the game, something your comments about the small field seem to imply. This was not a strong Jamaican team something that I think everyone on this board is aware of. Most of the starting A lineup was not there and replaced mostly by semi-pro domestic players. Canada was missing a few starters but still had players from the Premiership, 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, La Liga and Dutch 1st division. Jamaica's highest level of player by contrast was a Championship player. If we squeeked out a 1-0 victory over Jamaica's A side I would be pleased but barely beating this side with the players we had is a failure. We should be beating such a squad 3-0 or 4-0. I was at the game and have never seen a Canadian team play with such lack of organization. I was probably the biggest Frank Yallop critic around and think his reign was a disaster yet we were never this disorganized or unprepared under him.

Why exactly would I have anything against a coach from T and T? If Dwight Yorke retires, gets a coaching license and turns into a successful coach I would have nothing against him coaching Canada. Send us a good coach and I will be all for a Trinidadian coach. If I am anti-Caribbean for some reason why would I state that Brown did a good coaching job. Do you think I just happen to love Jamaicans and hate Trinidadians? Hart has never played nor coached at a high level. The highlight of his career so far has been coaching the Canadian U-17 team. I was completely neutral about him until this match. After seeing how we played, yes, I am now anti-Hart not because I have anything against T and T but because his coaching stunk. Maybe in 10 or 15 years he will be a good international level coach. He is not one now. Nor am I the only Canadian fan who thought the coaching job is poor. The fact of the matter is he coached very poorly and we noticed that but for whatever reason you like the guy because he is from T and T and are totally ignoring his performance.
