See Jordan is embarking on a crossover, not sure if Bolt could have the same impact on basketball etc,he was always on the backburner as far as the US market is concerned.
And of course ,with the US Nike market being shared by so many athletes ,Bolt is more to Puma than any one of those athletes is to Nike.
Why I am happy he stayed with Puma is I can't see Nike embarking on the many programmes Puma has in Jamaica.
Besides ,if Bolt is to be credited with putting back Puma on the map, then it has to do with his influence other than the US market.
The whole is greater than.....,in other words, on an individual basis, Bolt is shortchanged but the residual effect....
Nike was planning for the Bolt line, if he signed, to be a major player in the T&F market (with spikes, running shoe, trainers, attire & other accessories), then they were looking at soccer & cricket, 2 sports Bolt was passionate about. They also had plans for a street/casual wear line, based on his outgoing/active personality & lifestyle.
Bolt played in the NBA All-Star Celebrity game & he was one of the fan favorites & the celebrities were fawning over him, and the talk shows are always booking him when he's here.......I had 3 t-shirts, from Jamaica, with Bolts silhouette, and everywhere I went, in the U.S., people knew who it was & asked where they could buy them.......Have you ever had any interaction with or seen Kevin Durant. Very good basketballer & a good guy, BUT no personality & very low-key - has a $300M shoe deal with Nike & is one of the top selling basketball shoes.......Nike is the master at developing & growing an athlete's brand. That's how the company exploded unto the athletic shoe/apparel market, and Adidas, Puma, etc. are playing catch-up.
I think the Bolt line would have been a game-changer, because, for starters, they were planning to buy out the Puma contract with Jamaica & sign the top Jamaican T&F athletes, and they were also looking at taking over the ReggaeBoyz sponsorship.
As I said earlier, Jordan was going to mentor him in brand development & growth.......Nike had Jordan team up with Federer for 1 shoe, and it sold out twice, and Bolt has more recognition & personality than Federer.
Yeah the opportunity cost is hard to ignore, but let us be practical, it is VERY unlikely Puma would empower Nike by turning over to them its investment in Jamaica, Nike's intents would not have been realized in my opinion.
USAF Dem clueless,I remember It came up here years ago ,someone😒😠 said Bolt isn't marketable based on JA GDP , Basically he calculated how many shoes he could sell in JA.
Dem nuh rate Dem self.Simple😕
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!
"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.
"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
He is actually well informed, all his posts are solid.
And of course, there is no denying Nike has the mechanism to to greatly increase brand Bolt...
Just unconvinced Puma will rollover, and if it does, that Nike will have the stick-to-itness...
Yes it Nike is the owner. The may act with some independence but at the end of the day it is another Nike product. I wonder how many input these athlete have even though they are given these titles?
Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.
