BBC research has shown just how much the record £8.3billion of TV revenue has boosted the coffers of top-flight teams.

So great are the figures that 10 clubs in the 2016-17 campaign - the first benefiting from the current broadcast deal - would have recorded pre-tax profits even with matchday incomes stripped away.

When asked by investors on the New York Stock Exchange about the impact a successful season would have on the club's commercial prospects, Woodward gave a telling response.

"If I can answer very simply and candidly. Playing performance doesn't really have a meaningful impact on what we can do on the commercial side of the business," he said in May.

In short, the United brand will not suffer if their major trophy drought continues. Indeed, you only have to look at how United's share price rocketed to an all-time high of £18.50 per share after that awful defeat to Brighton to realise that.

United fans, though, do not care if Alexis Sanchez breaks records for shirt sales or if the club's Youtube account has millions of subscribers - they want success on the field.

I think Woodward is naive, his bet is there will no real consequence and as such is only interested in maintaining the status quo, oblivious to him is the prospect of growth .

That is indeed a threat to the Trinity, when fans and share price clash
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.
