LONDON,England: Following his recent transfer to English Championship division club Stoke City late last month Jamaican international Ricardo Fuller is now targeting goals for his new club this new season.
Fuller made the switch from Southampton to City after the completion of a successful medical last Wednesday. The Jamaican international striker signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee and during an interview with his club official website Fuller made it clear that his intention for the season is to score goals and help his new side move back into the top-flight.
"I want to get back to scoring ways", Fuller told his club website last week, "As a striker it's my duty to score goals and if I can do that it will be good for everyone at the club, not just me.
"My ambition is to play more consistently and improve all the time, score as many goals as I can. Everywhere I go I score goals. I want to take this club to the highest of heights and get into the Premiership."
The 26-year-old Reggae Boyz forward also said that the switch to continue his career in a new surrounding at the Britannia Stadium won't be difficult, especially with a few familiar faces, such as defender Danny Higginbotham and Marlon Broomes, with whom he played at Southampton and at Preston respectively, also around.
"My agent told me about Stoke being interested and when he told me about Danny Higginbotham and Vincent Pericard being here I said I'll definitely choose Stoke," he said.
"Danny Higginbotham said it was a big club even before he left Southampton. It looks a great stadium and the pitch looks good. People up north tend to appreciate football more and you feel the energy when the fans are chanting and that's good as a player."
Fuller's weekly salary at City will likely be less than the one he got during his playing times with the Saints, but the tricky striker said at the end of the day, playing football is his main priority.
"I've taken a reduction in my wages to come to Stoke. I've come here to play football and that's the most important thing at the end of the day. Wherever I go I score goals and create goals, but I can only score if I am on the pitch.
"Hopefully, I can stay fit and get stronger and play games every week and the more I play the better I get. I'm sure I can score goals here," he added.
