  • Jamaican football owes huge debt to schoolboy competitions

Following close on the heels of Jamaica's highly successful campaign at the CONCACAF Gold Cup using mainly local-bred players who are active in the North American professional leagues comes the morale-boosting 2-1 away friendly win against Trinidad and Tobago.

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

The team winning the Manning Cup invariably shows signs of structured players development. Typically, club leagues have two bona fide contenders, Manning Cup is far mor competitive.

Corporate Area football only has 3 good teams, JC, St Georges and Wolmer's. Irrespective of who makes finals, one of these 3 teams will win.

That trend of anemic wins continued with JC and STGC winning it once each.

Given the past 10 years, this is a new phenom with JC being the dominant team.Interesting as it was in its inception in the early 1900s,history repeats itself.

Thabks Sir X but I am quite aware of the history. Time would say my statement is contemporary ,and of course my response would be we have seen that pattern before.
What I am trying to avoid is the discussion morphing into the controversial practice of acquiring players, therefore I chose not to prolong the conversation in anticipation of the inevitable..

            You did well.

I said Corporate Area football only has 3 good teams. The Corporate Area teams play in 4 competitions.

                From 2009 to 2016.
                a) Which teams won the Manning Cup?
                b) Which teams won the Walker Cup?
                c) Which Corporate area teams won the Oliver Shield?
                d) Which Corporate area teams won the Super Cup?

There are only 3 good teams from the Corporate Area, Wolmer's, St Georges and Jamaica College.

To take this further if you play for Jose Marti high and only play the minimum first round before being knocked out how does school boy football develop you?

What the state of football demonstrates is the potential of the football in JA; if it were not up to "schoolboy football" (alone) to develop the youth, just imagine what could be possible?!?!
