Sandals’ desire to be successful in Jamaican & regional soccer, as well as their willingness to invest in the sport, why don’t the NPL (RSPL) & JFF formulate & implement a plan focused on the DIRECT involvement/participation of Jamaican corporations in the NPL (RSPL)???…….DIRECT involvement/participation = Team Ownership…….With these corporations either wholly owning a team or having a meaningful ownership stake in a team, it will make GOOD business sense for them to invest in a comprehensive soccer development program = Good coaches & players.

Most of the team in Jamaica have no real ownership. They are community based, run directly by a community, Dons, politicians, people within football and in many cases supported by politicians. Most of the clubs don't have a plan other than to reach the NPL or win it. A few clubs like Harbour View, Cavalier and Portmore have development on their mind. Businessmen will give a charity donation but will not be directly involved. That is why I point out that it maybe a good thing that UWI, Sandals and places like Jamalco are getting involved because they can make a difference. Sandals have the resources needed to have a good field as they have landscapers and groundsmen and equipment to maintain a field if they want to. With resource such as management which they can take from their businesses and encourage visitors to attend games, it can be a win-win plus they have build in accommodation for players, visiting team or tournament.

Sandals just need to convince daddy Butch and Adam Stewart. UWI is on the right track and it will encourage other players to go there. My friend son was been looked at by St. John's, St.Francis and others and UWI offered him a scholarship and he choose to stay home. Only within the last 5 or so years they have been offering scholarships. They need to offer part time classes to attract others and set up nutrition and sport science classes etc. with the soccer team.
