Norman Bailey repaid the coaching staff for handing him his first start of the tournament by netting the nation's seventh penalty kick in sudden death, to secure the all-important win that ensured at least a silver medal.
Jamaica's other scorers were James Thomas, Troy Smith, Dwayne Smith and goalkeeper Duwayne Kerr.
Obrian Woodbine hit the crossbar, while skipper Ricardo Cousins' effort was saved by Mexican custodian Sergio Javier Arias.
The Boyz will next meet Ecuador in Friday's final at 3:00 pm (1:00 pm Jamaica time), after Ecuador edged Bolivia 1-0 in their semis. The losing semi-finalists will battle for the bronze medal.

Yesterday, Smith lost 12-4 on points to his Brazilian oponent.
He joined Trevor Berbick (1975 heavyweight bronze), Barry Foster (1963 lightweight bronze), Ronald Holmes (1963 light-heavyweight silver), Alex Stewart (1983 heavyweight bronze), Mike McCallum (1979 welterweight silver) and Gary Smikles (1987 light middleweight bronze) as Jamaican boxers to have secured medals at the quadrennial continental showpiece.
