    2007 Pan Am Games: Canada victorious; Jamaica & Panama earn ties at Women’s Tournament

    - Canada was victorious, while Jamaica and Panama earned ties in the third day of the women’s football tournament at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Monday.


    Three goals by Kara Lang and another from Andrea Neil led Canada (2-0-0, 6 Points) to a 4:0 victory over Ecuador (0-2-0, 0 Points) in a Group A encounter at the João Havelange Stadium, while in an earlier group match, Jamaica (1-1-1, 4 Points) played Uruguay (0-2-1, 1 Point) to a 1:1 draw at the Miécimo de Silva Sport Complex.

    In Group B action on Monday, a goal by Sumara Samuels gave Panama (0-2-1, 1 Point) a 1:1 tie against Paraguay (0-2-1, 1 Point) at the Miécimo de Silva Sport Complex, while in the other group encounter at the João Havelange Stadium, Argentina (2-0-0, 6 Points) defeated Mexico (1-1-0, 3 Points) by a score of 1:0.

    The women’s tournament continues on Wednesday (18 July) as the USA (2-0-0, 6 Points) takes on Argentina at the João Havelange Stadium and then Brazil (2-0-0, 6 Points) hosts Ecuador. Also on Wednesday, Panama faces Mexico at the Miécimo de Silva Sport Complex, while Jamaica meets Canada at the Zico Football Center.

    The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium on 23 July with the bronze and gold medal games set for three days later at the same venue.
