Germany had only missed two penalties since the inception of penalty shootouts, until today when three were quickly added. I didn't verify this but took it from (German) FB friend's comment. He said the two misses before were by:
Uli Hoeness in 1976
Uli Stielike 1982
Must have been in Euros...Peter R

I thought it was tactically exhilarating.Italy will always give you that ultra defensive counter attacking game and Germany was coming with attacking fluidity, the questions was, were the Italians going to stymie that flow ( boring) and wound them on the counter.( Exciting)
They almost pulled it off undeservedly, thank my lord for penalities.THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!
"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.
"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Germany gave Italy too much respect and were scared to go forward. Italy was plain awful and couldn't put 3 passes together. There is no tactics in that!
Italy almost pulled it off only because Boateng inexplicably gave up a dumb handball.

So the Italians could not put 3 passes together and it took a hand ball and extra time ,plus penalties ,to kill off a tactically inept team.
Ah hear yuh...heheTHERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

The tactics didnt need explanation when Jamaica qualified for WC 98 or more recently when Gritty Leicester won the prem , or when said Italy beat Spain. This is how the Italians play ,defensive counter attacking football, if you can find a time in history where they have left this tactical form let me know.
The problem is Germany didnt let the italian posture unhinge them like Spain ,even when Boaetang made his flailing arm error, the Italians could only hope for another because in no way were they going to score on the counter, from open play against a german team holding is shape.
Yuh see mi , yuh know ball or yuh only watch ball ?THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!
