Jamaica beat Dominica 2-1

Up to press time, the hosts Dominican Republic and St Kitts & Nevis were locked in battle in the second game of the double header at the venue.
In the curtain-raiser, it was one-way street in favour of the young Reggae Boyz in the early exchanges. But a rare foray from the small Eastern Caribbean island into the Jamaican half led to them taking a surprise early lead.

Lander, operating as a solitary forward, was given room inside the Jamaicans’ 18-yard-box, and he controlled a pass before striking beyond the reach of goalkeeper Jahmali Waite.

Despite still bossing possession, Jamaica appeared lethargic.

A water break was taken by the officials close to the half-hour mark to allow players a breather in hot and draining afternoon conditions.

Jamaica’s Head Coach Ricardo Gardner and his assistant Altimont Butler took the opportunity to pass instructions to the players, but it seemed to have had little effect as they entered the half-time break down 0-1.
