    Team Melli crushes Jamaica

TMDC - Team Melli 8-1 surgical demolition of Jamaica , under the coaching of the much travelled Serbian Bora Mulitinovic , was a serious warning to the Asian rivals that Iran is going to the Far East with one and only one objective….to Win the Asian Cup 2007.

After 31 years in doldrums, Iran desperately needs to win the trophy that lived in Tehran for 12 years on the row in the seventies. With Iran using its full team and a star studded line up , Jamaica were overwhelmed and had very little realistic hope in challenging the Asian Powerhouse. This was quickly evident with the first move of the match . Hashemian unleashed a powerful shot which the goalkeeper parried to a corner and from that corner , Javad Nekounam scored with a nice header , the time indicating 40 seconds.

Barely a minute passed , when Merhzad Madanchi scored from about 25 meters to register the 2nd goal in as many minutes. It took some 15 minutes before Jamaica could manage a proper attack but to no avail. While the Iranians carried on their assault scoring two more goals before the first half whistle, scored by Madanchi and Hashemian.

In the second half, the assault continued unabated as Team Melli scored 4 more goals despite giving their star players Hashemian and Karimi , then Mahdavikia some hard earned rest. The goals scored by Nekounam , and 3 late goals by Khatibi (2) and Enayati.

Although the Jamaicans were hopelessly out-played and did not seem to be able to create any serious threat, they managed to score a header goal midway through the half as a consolation while a couple of half chances were created to keep the reserve keeper , Rahmati busy.

Overall Iranian supremacy was evident in this match. Javad Nekounam and Masoud Shojaei were probably the best 2 player in the game with brilliant passes , crosses and moves provided by these midfield players. Karimi , playing a quiet game still managed some magical moves despite a glaring missed opportunity to score while Hashemian was effective and created serious threats anytime he had the ball in possession.

The Iranian defense was hardly tested; however they seemed to be solid despite the weak opposition. Roudbarian managed to keep the Jamaicans at bay with his perfect timings on the crosses. Rahmati , was a shade shaky and out of competitive match practice.

Although Khatibi scored two goals, he missed many others and once again frustrated his team mates for lack of passing when the other forwards , namely Enayati , was in a better position to score.

From what my friend at CVM TV told me. Some of the NPL/Reggae Boyz were suffering from stomach flu and the match was suppose to be suspended. However, the NPL/Reggae Boyz insisted on playing the match.

I'm not sure how true report is, but my friend has never lied to me about matters relating to Jamaica and Reggae Boyz football.

        Bora's Reggae Boyz whipped 8-1

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz received a merciless 8-1 pounding at the hands of 49th- ranked Iran as a devastating four-game friendly tour of Asia came to a disheartening end at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran yesterday.

In what could only be described as a gutless display, the Jamaicans, ranked 68th in the world, ended upon the wrong side of one of the nation's worst ever defeats, comparative to the 9-0 defeat by Costa Rica in 1999. The whistle had hardly been sounded by the referee before Jamaica's keeper Dwayne Miller, who was merely a target in the Jamaican goal, was retrieving the ball from the back of his net.

Seconds after the kick-off, the custodian did well to parry a point blank range shot from striker Vahid Hashemian, but could do nothing to stop a close range header from the resulting corner in the second minute. At the back post, a loosely marked Javad Nekounam, who along with Mehrzad Madanchi and substitute Rasoul Khatibi had two goals in the encounter, just could not miss giving Iran the early lead.

It wouldn't take long for Iran, who had a total 15 shots on goal, to extend their lead. With very little pressure Madanchi who sliced and diced his way through a spongy midfield, eventually blasted past Miller from about 25 yards out in the third minute.

        Bullet header
A helpless Jamaican backline would find themselves at sea from yet another corner. This time Nekounam tucked the ball away from almost the goal line, in the 18th minute, after a bullet header from an unguarded Hashemian was parried by Miller who, believe it or not, had a solid game in goal. In fact had it not been for the efforts of the custodian who stopped a few point-blank efforts, the Boyz could have lost by a greater margin.

Hashemian, once again getting behind a backline that showed no ability to deal with high crosses, put away a header of his own to give Iran an insurmountable 4-0 lead in the 38th minute.

In the second half, horrendous defending would see Madanchi left alone to tap in a close range 49th- minute shot past substitute custodian Richard McCallum who took the bulls eye from Miller at the start of the second half. Then 60th- minute substitute Khatibi would drill a left footed blast into the roof of the net in the 80th for a 6-0 scoreline.

The Jamaicans, who were truly toothless in their attack, taking atotal of four shots on goal for the game, two of which were harmless long-range efforts from Demar Phillips and Fabian Taylor, would pull one back through Taylor in the 84th minute.

Taylor, who was an injury worry ahead of the friendly, headed home beating substitute goal-keeper Mehi Rahmati to the ball from a Fabian Davis corner. Iran would net again in the 88th minute, while Reza Enayati ended the onslaught in time added on for an 8-1 victory.

The fully local-based Boyz who have won only one friendly under new technical director Velibor Milutinovic, lost three of the four games played on the Asian tour, conceding a staggering 13 goals while managing to hit the back of the net only three times.

Reggae Boyz hammered 8-1 - Jamaica end Asian tour miserably

Jamaica's 8-1 hammering by Iran yesterday at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran brought an end to the Reggae Boyz's two-week Asian tour, where they lost three of four games.

Their only win was a 2-0 result against Malaysia while they lost 2-1 to Indonesia and 3-0 to Vietnam before being mercilessly whipped by 49th-ranked Iran.

The Reggae Boyz are due home on Thursday.

The all-local Jamaican squad ended up on the wrong side of one of the nations worst ever defeats, comparative to the 9-0 loss to Costa Rica in 1999. The whistle had hardly left the lips of the referee before Jamaica's goalkeeper Dwayne Miller was retrieving the ball from the back of his net.
