In 36 years as a coach, Hankinson spent two years in the NASL and nine years in MLS, coaching internationally — with stops in Brazil, Iceland, Guatemala, India and Jamaica.
With all his experience and geographical stops, Hankinson said he is thrilled to be in Indianapolis which "unquestionably has the greatest fans in the United States."
"People are talking all over the nation about the fanfare (here)," he said.
He comes to the Indy Eleven after coaching Jamaican first division side Montego Bay United to the top of the Red Stripe National Premier League.
