At any rate, if Qatar loses the 2022 WC then I imagine the bid process would be reconsidered, and Australia would also have to be a contender as they had submitted a very viable bid themselves.

What i dont get is you charge central and south americans for bribing officials for a tournament to be played in the USA but no americans are charged,so these 10 stadiums are owned by south americans and central americans, US soccer had nothing to do with this deal.

Well, not to discredit the organisers, but that was simply a function of the size of US stadia. No doubt, well, IMO, that any country hosting a WC would match those figures if they had the 80,000 plus seats stadia.

I went to all the first round matches in Pontiac in 94 and I can tell you, I needed binoculars to make out what was going on waaayyyyy down below. That said, the atmosphere in the stands was astounding... outside the stadium... NADA! and that I think was the difference between a USA WC and one held elsewhere... Today, things might be different, but I don't know.

But yes, it was financially a huge success.

Jack Warner says US winning battle to take over FIFA

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago (AFP) – Fallen Trinidad and Tobago football honcho Jack Warner said Friday the latest fallout from the corruption scandal gripping world football showed the United States was winning its battle to "take over FIFA."

Speaking outside a court hearing where he is seeking to stave off his extradition to the United States, Warner said there were ulterior motives for the US indictments charging him and a host of other top football officials and marketing executives with corruption
