"There are lots of grassroots programmes ongoing. The overall development of football, at least in my association, is as a result of the work of this administration. We, therefore, see no need to change at this time," he noted.

In addition, Samuels said that Jamaica's recent performance at the Gold Cup, and past accomplishments of qualifying for the 1998 World Cup Finals in France, plus qualification to the Under-17 (twice), and Under-20 World Cups give Burrell a big advantage in staving off any challenges that may emerge.

So is the captain president for life because of 1998... Jamaicans!! I think a challenge is good. Not saying Powell is the guy as I dont know but first of all Hanover has the least to show in terms of development. They seems to be holding on to some masters league, no youth development , no team in the premier leage and I cant name a good football field in that parish. Not even Russeas have a good field.. The issue is the cappo sponsor every league so you disagree with him at your peril. Its gonna be interesting what wesmoreland and trewlany does, he proably can get St. Bess so that should be St. james , trelawny, St. Bess and proably Westmoreland.

...but even if the current leader is poor it needs someone that shall 'do better than poor' to take the leader's place? Right?

So was Burrell's challenger shaping up to be a 'step up on quality'?
