Sepp Blatter has rejected complaints made by football’s biggest sponsors over a bribery and corruption scandal, saying they were politically motivated and made at the behest of the US.

Blatter has been suspended from Fifa as part of the fallout from a US Department of Justice investigation into bribery, money-laundering and wire fraud at the sport’s governing body.

Legal gun pun in federal court.

The U.S. Supreme Court's decision to rule whether the racketeering statute applies to crimes committed in other countries is being closely watched by federal prosecutors in connection with the FIFA corruption case in Brooklyn Federal Court, sources said.

The nation's highest court announced earlier this month that it would review the long-running lawsuit brought by 26 European countries alleging in a civil lawsuit that the tobacco company RJR Nabisco "controlled a global money-laundering scheme with organized crime groups" in violation of the RICO statue, according to court papers.
