    Weary Boyz arrive in Vietnam

    Saturday, June 23, 2007

HANOI, Vietnam - Still smarting from their 1-2 loss to Indonesia in Thursday's friendly international in Jakarta, Jamaica's battle-weary Reggae Boyz arrived here late yesterday afternoon, after another long day of travelling.

The Boyz will contest their second game on this four-nation Asian tour when they take on the home side at 7:00 pm (7:00 am Jamaica time) tomorrow. They then journey to Kuala Lumpur to meet Malaysia next Thursday, before wrapping up the tour against Iran on July 2.

On Thursday, the Boyz were pipped when Bambang Pamungkas broke the 1-1 deadlock with his second goal of the game in the first of the four minutes of time added. Wolry Wolfe, of Portmore United, had scored Jamaica's goal.

Having suffered from inadequate recovery time for the first game, following their 40-hour travel from Kingston, the Boyz were up early yesterday morning for their 7 o'clock flight to Kuala Lumpur, then on to Hanoi by the 5:00 pm. But what should have been an easy half-hour commute from the airport to Hanoi Horison hotel, turned out to be a one-and-a-half hour toil due to rush hour traffic in this congested city.

The schedule forced a much needed day off from the pitch for the players, following Thursday's battle royal, in which a number of them suffered from cramps and muscle spasms.

However, they are expected to take to the field for a practice session at the game venue today.
