Even the American commentators whom I HAD to listen to, were able to ( in two replays maybe ten seconds total) determine there was no foul!

It's all about the gate receipts. Take a look at the crowd or lack therefore in these two Canada versus Trinidad and Canada versus Columbia semi final and final of the 2000 Gold Cup. Either the US or Mexico must be in the finals. (They should always have a plan B to play the semi finals and finals at Giants Stadium in NY whenever Mexico and the USA are eliminated because of the large American, Hispanic and Caribbean populations in the tri state area.)
