  • Honduran David Suazo to join AC Milan?

AC Milan have opened negotiations to sign Honduras international striker David Suazo from Cagliari after admitting it was "highly unlikely" Samuel Eto'o would join them this summer.
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said on Monday that Barcelona's Cameroon international Eto'o was the Serie A club's number one transfer target.
But Galliani backpedalled on Tuesday after announcing that Milan had agreed a deal with Serie A rivals Cagliari for Suazo. Suazo, however, is not yet an AC Milan player as he hasn't yet agreed personal terms. Milan's city rivals Inter had appeared to be on the brink of signing Suazo last week, only for the transfer to fall through.
"It is highly unlikely that Eto'o will arrive this summer, and is we close the deal for Suazo we will have finished our buying campaign," Galliani said.
"We have reached an agreement with Cagliari, but the transfer is not yet complete as we don't have the player's signature. He is on holiday at the moment, and he may not want to come to Milan right now."
Suazo, who was close to joining AC Milan a year ago, scored 14 goals in Serie A last season. His best return was 22 goals in 37 matches in the 2005-06 season.
Galliani insisted AC Milan did not move for Suazo - who joined Sardinian side Cagliari from Honduran club Olimpia in 1999 - just to irritate neighbours Inter.
"There was no intention to be spiteful," he said. "We have tracked Suazo for more than a year, and (Cagliari president Massimo) Cellino told us that talks with Inter had broken down. That's when we opened negotiations."
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
