  • So, the talented Argentina was unable to

put away a Paraguay side after leading 2-0. Yes, the magical ... no let us use Ray Hudson's favorite adjective, "the Majesterial Messi" scored a penalty but was unable to lead his team to victory as the opponents rallied to tie 2-2.

Meanwhile, back in Europe his rival, the dark vader (according to Hudson) once again put an inept Portugal side on his back as he dragged them to a 3-2 victory by scoring ALL 3 GOALS.

I am fortunate to say that we are witnessing 2 of the greats, even though there are those who are eager to dismiss Ronaldo in order to praise Messi. Well ... Portugal face Italy without Ronaldo ... who will step up?

When will Messi & Ronaldo win a major tournament for their country?
Messi shall run out of gas & have iron legs before the end of Copa America. He is typically burnt out after the long Spanish season. None a dem in the class of Pele or Maradona, not even close.

Wait, so the standard is winning trophy? Camoranesi won a world cup, does that mean he is better footballer than George Weah, Michel Platini, Ruud Guillit etc? Ronaldo will never win a major trophy with his national team, but to dismiss his talent as a result is a mistake.

No not at all. No dissing of his talent.
But to be considered one of the greatest, show mi your country's trophy case.

Cruff and George Best shouldn't be considered among the greatest then? Germany just won the world cup ... who in that German squad you would consider to be BETTER than Messi and Ronaldo?

Why your country and not your club?

Maybe 50 years ago that would be the case, but these days the highest level of football is played at the Champions League level.

Even Brazil's national side would get duss out playing RM, Barca or Bayern today. Football has evolved way beyond "show mi your country's trophy case". Messi and Ronaldo are the greatest footballers of all time.
