  • The politricks of change ,Concacaf next president.

VANCOUVER – Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) president Victor Montagliani says he has not given any thought to putting his name forward to become the next president of CONCACAF, nor has anyone from within the confederation approached him regarding the role.
One week ago, CONCACAF named Montagliani to a three-man ‘special committee’ along with U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati and Mexican Football Federation president Justino Compean following the corruption scandal that has rocked FIFA, and in particular, CONCACAF.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Clearly, it's time that CONCACAF altered its structure to allow for some independent voices on the executive committee, something that at Gulati's urging has already taken place on the USSF Board of Directors. That body now includes three independent members: Carlos Cordeiro, Fabian Nunez and Donna Shalala.

Wrage recalled that during her time on the IGC, the committee recommended there be two completely independent members on the FIFA executive committee, and she believes CONCACAF would benefit from adopting a similar approach. After all, this is standard practice in the corporate world, where outside voices are brought onto boards of directors.
