Reggae Boy Beckford's hat-trick helps PNE gain promotion to Championship

BECKFORD... opened the scoring in the third minute

LONDON, England (AFP) -- Preston North End were promoted to the Championship yesterday as Jamaican international Jermaine Beckford's hat-trick inspired a 4-0 rout of Swindon in the League One play-off final at Wembley.

After failing to win promotion in any of their nine previous play-off campaigns, Preston finally ended the curse and returned to English football's second tier for the first time since 2011, thanks to Beckford's treble.

Bring back memories of Tappa and Pepe. They did not get the chance to see their team promoted to the Championship.

Beckford had a bad injury and it affected his career. I was surprised when he was called to the Reggae Boyz squad for World cup as he was just returning from injury and was a shadow of his former self.

He is definately better than league, at least a championship striker.

not just called up ... as I seem to recall his first game after the injury was not for his club bit for the boyz..

yeah something like that. He was a pretty good striker about 2 years ago and he is rounding back into form about now.

Timing wasn't right if you ask me.

                Happy for him.

I hope he can produce some of that "stunning form" for the Boyz. We going to need it against Uruguay and Argentina, in particular!

He is on loan from Bolton so don't look for Beckford to be at PNE the next season.

Beckford is a free agent and I expect Preston to sign him if they can afford him. This Preston manager seem to get the best out of him, he was also his manager at Leeds where he played his best football.

Maybe the PNE manager could take the Reggae Boyz job?!
