  • Cyle Larin of Orlando City has Jamaican roots

Just came across this, regarding the Orlando City striker and MLS #1 draft pick:

Hockey, not soccer, was the sport of choice growing up in Brampton, Ontario, about 25 minutes outside of Toronto, but Larin always wanted a ball at his feet and he played soccer often with his father, a native of Jamaica.
Larin played for Canada in their failed qualification campaign for the U-20 WC. He also has 5 caps for the senior team but all of them so far have come in friendlies, which (I believe) technically still makes him eligible for a switch to Jamaica, if he wanted to make such a move.
"Donovan was excellent. We knew he was a good player, but he really didn't do anything wrong in the whole game and made it difficult for us."
    - Xavi

        Good question Jangle .
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Cyle Larin has impressed during Orlando's difficult start to MLS life

Just over a quarter of the way through the MLS regular season, the opening day optimism of the expansion teams has been tempered with some rough realities as a combination of bad luck, injuries and lack of convincing team chemistry has seen both Orlando and New York City struggle for points.

Yet the past couple of weeks have seen results that might yet be hugely significant moments for both new teams, in terms of slowing what seemed like inexorable slides and offering them examples to point to when they wonder how they're going to ever get traction in MLS.

He does. And although I'm not an expert on FIFA rules regarding citizenship, I'm pretty sure he could still make the switch to Jamaica if he wanted to, since all of his Canadian appearances so far have come in either friendlies or youth matches.

However, Canada will be taking part in the Gold Cup in July, and the moment Larin sets foot on the field for Canada he will be forever tied to them since it's an official FIFA competition. So if the Jamaican FA has any designs on getting him to switch then time is running out.

BTW - Jamaica and Canada are in the same Gold Cup group and will face each other on July 11.

Four goals in eight matches is by no means a bad start to a rookie season. And keep in mind that he just turned 20 only a few weeks ago.

                      His ceiling is very high.
