More often than not success at the highest level in football is built on having vast funds with which to buy the best players. Some use their resources well, others just fritter money away though.

Here's a look at the 12 coaches and managers who have spent the most on players since 2004.

*all tallies calculated from transfermarkt data
    12. Jurgen Klopp - £173m

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

What do you mean by "Youth coach tops"?

But anyway, here is that list rewritten from most money to least money spent by club the coach is associated with, with their current position in their respective leagues:

    1. Chelsea - 1
    2. Real Madrid -2
    3. ManCity - 2
    4. ManCity -2
    5. Arsenal - 3
    6. ManU - 4
    7. Bayern M - 1
    8. ManU - 4
    9. Liverpool - 5
    10. Juventus -1
    11. Juventus - 1
    12. Dortmund - 7

While the amount spent is associated with the Manager, it is also instructive to see with which club they are associated. If there were a "by club" spending, I feel the amounts ranking wouldn't change much and there might be an(other) team(s) in there... say from Ligue 1 that are up there in their league.

I think that this clearly spells out what Paul has been saying about money spent and teams standings in the league.

And on another note, why would we want Klopp over BR if we are to give any credence to these figures?

ANd after seeing yesterday's match, at least end of the first half and the second, I think we did a fantastic job and should have won the game had we had more clinical finishing.

We need a healthy Sturridge back and another top striker!

Is be figure for Mourinho the total for Chelsea or is it his transfers at Purto, Chelsea, Inter, Real and Chelsea?

I didn't read the article closely, but based on current standings, the Prem breaks down PERFECTLY to the amount of money spent across the top 5. I did not read the article closely, but when you see a manager like Mancini beating a Wenger in the standings, you can only shake your head and ask what if it were a level playing field like the olden days.

Liverpool's mistakes came with the previous management of Moores and Rick "coco the clown" Parry. They had a perfect opportunity to position LFC with the big money oligarchs that dominate the prem now but pulled the deal from Dubai Investment Capital in favour of Hicks & Gillette. That has to be one of the biggest business blunders of all time. Now, we have some poor billionaire wannabee owners who while rich, are relative paupers compared to the owners of our rivals.
