The St Ann Football Association has been rocked by allegations that its president Danny Beckford has drawn cheques from the FA's account to himself totalling over $500,000 without presenting supporting documentation.
However, Beckford insisted yesterday during an interview on HITZ 92FM that he had supporting documentation for all cheques drawn to himself. Earlier in the day, he told the Observer that he was informed by the FA's executive that cheques drawn on the association's account were being investigated as they were allegedly drawn in his name.
Beckford did not elaborate, but said an extraordinary congress of the St Ann FA was set for July 15. Observer investigations revealed that he (Beckford) wrote the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) advising them that he would be dissolving the FA's executive board and seeking a new mandate from the parish on that date.
Meanwhile, treasurer of the FA, Dave Rogers, told the Observer yesterday that a meeting of the FA was set for last night to discuss three main issues, all involving the disbursement of cheques.
One issue involves a cheque drawn to the National Housing Development Corporation (NHDC), which, according to Rogers, has never been involved with the FA in any way, and questions were being asked as to why a cheque was made payable to that organisation.
The second issue was to deal with cheques signed by past signatories to the FA account - persons who no longer hold executive positions and were therefore not authorised to sign cheques.
The third matter had to do with several cheques "drawn to one Danny Beckford", Rogers said.
Beckford is said to be the only member of the last regime to have held his post, and the new executive members have been trying for months to get the FA's books in order.
When the books were finally made available, an audit was conducted where it is alleged that irregularities were discovered.
