Miami FC is unstoppable; South Floridans beat Minnesota 2-1
Miami, FL- Miami FC beat the Minnesota Thunder 2-1 Friday night at Tropical Park Stadium, almost securing a spot in the play-offs in only their first year of experience. This was the club's 5th win in the last 6 games.
The first half ended up 0-0, although Miami FC did dominate. Sean Fraser had a clear opportunity to score when he had a one on one with the Minnesota keeper in the 2nd minute of play, but Joe Warren got the best part of it. Then, Diego Walsh had a superb shot saved by Warren in the 15th minute. Although the field conditions were not the best due to the rain that had fallen prior to the match, Miami FC was able to handle the ball well and maintain possession throughout most of the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Miami FC was determined to get the three points at home. In the 20th minute, the South Floridians would get their well deserved first goal when Diego Walsh made an amazing high near post shot and converted his 5th goal of the season, and 4th in September alone. And three minutes later, Sean Fraser made an individual play that ended with the Jamaican scoring his 3rd goal in two games and set the score at 2-0. In the 90th minute of play, the Thunder got a goal back on a great shot by Anim Toure.
After the match, midfielder Zinho said, "We feel like everything has fallen into place right now. If we keep working hard and playing this way, this is a championship caliber team."
Miami FC closes the regular season next weekend when they play the Puerto Rico Islanders on Friday, September 8 and Sunday, September 10 at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium.
