  • Stonigut!!! I see you always making posts

about the importance of having a good defense & found it interesting that yesterday they were talking about Toronto FC's new potent attack and Taylor Twellman stated that they looked that good and efficient because of the work that was done with the defense. He also pointed out that it was because they were smart enough to hire Robin Fraser (a Jamaican), who he says is very good in that area.

Again where is the JFF meeting of all the stakeholders?
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

Yeah man that's good to hear that he is making a good contribution there. Defense is the foundation for real success, which means not just playing pretty ball, where we can ooh and aha but actually winning and competing.

Classic case for me is always 82 World Cup, was there and will there ever be another team like Brazil 82 in terms of pure attacking ability and just sweet ball rolling, man like Eder, Junior, Falcao, Socrates, Zico etc all except for Serginho but playing against Italy that barely eked out draws in the first round with grinding defense, came alive with classic defense and counterattack against the wide open Brazil attack, well you remember the final score there.

Isn't it interesting that between Brazil, Germany, Italy and Argentina they have all won multiple cups, and Italy has won four but you would be hard pressed to name one really great Italian to match the greatest of the other three countries, again Italy focus on defense and bottom line result has guaranteed superior results with what seems to be less of what many call "talent" no Pele's, no Maradona's, no Messi, no Beckenbaur, no Muller, no zico, but they do have what us probably the best keeper ever in Dino Zoff.

Excellence in defense is the cake and excellence in attack is the icing.

You actually mean...must mean...and I base this on your writings on the game and specific on defense...yes, you actually mean, "only pretty attacking ball". Your writings do describe the 'pretty' in playing outstanding defense. We, true. Fanz, do revel in the beauty of great defensive work. Yup...those also get our expressions of appreciation and praise!

They have their ball artists... The greatest of players wide on the left - Bruno Conti!

Sometimes I have to wonder because there is a slight difference between dreamland and reality.

As one coach said to me "you go to war with what you have" Do you realize the kind of talent you listed up above???

We can do better but look at teams like Blackburn Rovers who once pride themselves on producing stars, look at the Fulham with a good academy but still in Championship. We want to be better, we can be better, but can we produce world betters on a consistent basis? I don't know that.

The point I was making is that Italy is one of the greatest ball nations, top three but you can't think of any superstars from Italy like you can of the rest and that is because they win and have more impact with less relative to the other teams and defense plays a large part in that.

Karl mentions Bruno conti, which we all thought was probably the most fantastic player in my class of 82 but no one ever mentions him in the class of the others mentioned above.

More TEAM...but that was then. Germany has been best at TEAM for the last few years...but it is fact all the current top national TEAMs now do so. Poor Mexico wish has always played...just not fast enough or strong enough to be appropriately rewarded for TEAM effort.

                  ...I feel for them.

btw - We could load our football with that Mexican style...and we would defeat every TEAM in Concacaf...including Mexico in the Azteca.

We started this 2nd half going to the ball...and immediately we looked better than the US. ...then we now have players slowing...to the ball again. However for these first few minutes...just by inserting commitment to meet the ball you would not know we are the same TEAM. Night to Day!

They are simply not hyped in the media that you follow the way the other nations are.

In the 2006 team, Buffon, Cannavaro, Nesta, Pirlo, Totti and Del Piero were all among the best in the world at their positions and legends.

In the 1994 team, Pagliuca, Baggio, Maldini, Baresi, Donadoni, Signori, Zola were among the best in the world legends.

...we must continue attacking the ball. The change in effort...and commonsense play=getting to the ball shows teacher at work.

Now the big question: Will we continue to attack the ball=go to reachable ball. The US will not lower discipline and effort or change tactics=shape and attack.

We just have to get to the ball and use/play TEAM. This bunch can be excellent TEAM.

Why do we jog back...no fast getting to the ball...closing down quickly?
