Arsenal do not need new defensive midfielder - Martin Keown

Former Arsenal defender and MOTD2 pundit Martin Keown expands on his TV analysis of the Gunners' 5-0 win over Aston Villa and explains how manager Arsene Wenger adjusted his existing system in January, instead of bringing in new faces, to make his side more solid at the back.`

There were a lot of calls for Arsenal to sign a new defensive midfielder before this transfer window opened but, in the last few weeks, the Gunners have found a new way to win without needing new players to do it.

Arsene Wenger's side were seen as having a soft centre when they lost to Southampton on New Year's Day, and the lack of protection given to their defence has been frequently criticised this season.

How Arsenal finally put defence first to beat Manchester City
MOTD2 pundit Trevor Sinclair expands on his TV analysis of what was different about Arsenal as they beat defending champions Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday to end their run of poor results away from home against the other big-hitters in the Premier League.

The way Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger set up his side against Manchester City was surprising and refreshing - and he got his reward with an impressive victory.

At Etihad Stadium on Sunday, it seemed that Wenger finally realised he cannot play his usual open style of attacking football when his team are away from home against the best teams in the Premier League.

Instead, the Gunners were set up to defend and keep a clean sheet. Right from the start, there were times when all 11 of their players were defending deep in City's half.

That kind of work-rate, within the structure of their 4-1-4-1 formation, was the biggest reason why they won the game.

why? didn't you say that the results were against non top sides and that you are waiting to see how they perform against the big gun of which you included spurs?

            Revisit?
A mere second is what a snapshot captures.
Southampton is the new QPR,hopefully that changes today.
A little breeding space but a draw would have been better, now we have to worry about Spurs too,I guess thanks are in order!
