the direction TEAMs are/football is moving i.e. FULL 100 effort on attack and defense for each and every player. The slackers...the one-way players will soon be ditched they could be fantastic in that one area - i.e. attack or defense - no more space for them. No coach will dump a player who is excellent on attack and defense to insert one excellent only on attack or on defense.
We shall soon be seeing at the very top league and tournaments all players excellent on both sides of the ball.
Technical skills - Excellent!
Tactical intelligence - Excellent!
They shall be great at defending as individual and attacking as individual and also as member of the TEAM both on TEAM attack and TEAM defense! That is it right there! ...and they shall also have all the necessary physical abilities e.g. pace across ground, fast feet, fast minds (naturally) = Tactical intelligence. ...means they all shall play extremely high level of TEAM!
...saying that brings me to think on my GUNNERS' SANCHEZ. Fast...but not real fast! Fast(est) of feet! Good technical skills! ...but the guy plays DUMB! = poor tactically = poor TEAM!
In his last 2 matches - examples - he got at lot of touches of the ball and I would hazard a guess he gave it to the opponents between upwards of 70% of the time. The only answer to such anti-TEAM behavior is the guy is DUMB!
I would hazard a guess that if our squad remains healthy...90% healthy he slips to the bench and then off!
In our last match v Brighton, we can forgive the young Akpom for giving away the ball so often when his and my GUNNERS had Brighton on the back foot and one pass was needed from him to unlock the Brighton rear-guard. Instead he seemed to always run into the defender...thus breaking up his TEAM's attack and giving away the ball. ...and bwoy, did Brighton attack from such gifts?
We cannot on the other hand forgive the experienced and supposedly more thoughtful Sanchez from 'popping' into coughing up the ball rather than passing to a TEAM-mate.
The youngster we hope will learn. Can Sanchez?
