  • USA qualifies for U-20 World Cup with win over El Salvador

USA Under-20 national team beats El Salvador 2-0 to qualify for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup

The USA qualified for the 2015 FIFA Under-20 World Cup on Saturday, securing a 2-0 victory over El Salvador in a do-or-die playoff match held at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Jamaica.

Former RSL and Chivas USA academy forward Ben Spencer opened the scoring in the 37th minute and ex-LA Galaxy academy player Paul Arriola, who came on for Spencer at halftime, got the clincher in the 68th minute as the US U-20s advanced to their 14th FIFA Under-20 tournament.

Looking at the professional and academy players at that U-20 tournament what about their quality that suggests proper instructions at our secondary high schools could not produce?

I suggest they could with physical structures as is, produce even higher quality players.

Nothing to write home about. Very flat US team and don't talk about beating Aruba by 8-0. Jamaica gave you to foolish penalty or you would licking your wounds right now. Trinidad came into this tournament without one one international practice game.

Congrats but if they are to do anything in the World cup they have to improve a whole lot. Panama and Mexico look miles ahead right now.

Zeppo!!! Considering this is said to be the most talented group of U.S. U20 players, do you think Ramos is the best coach to lead this team???

Some people have said that the following players should have been selected: Dembakwi Yomba (a striker at Atletico Madrid), Rubio Rubin (a striker at FC Utrecht), Kainoa Bailey (a winger at LA Galaxy who was at Bayer Leverkusen), Saalih Muhammad (a winger/midfielder at Dinamo Zagreb), Luis Felipe (a midfielder at Cruzeiro), Kristian Scott (a midfielder at Swansea), Joel Sonora (a midfielder at Boca Juniors)........What do you think???

Are Julian Green (Hamburg) & Gedion Zelalem (Arsenal) eligible for th U20 WC???

What's the status of Erik Palmer-Brown (SKC), who's considered to be our best youth defender???

I can't really say on Ramos because I didn't see any of the games -- I don't get that Fox station that broadcast them. However, I've read quite a few complaints about him from U.S. fans.

I think the problem with selecting all those other players you mentioned is that their clubs aren't obligated by FIFA to release them for U-20 qualifying, so that's not Ramos' fault if they weren't there.

The most talented available today? Or ever?!

              Because they weren't that good.

They didn't make it the last time so there might be something not so right with the program.

Same coach. Last time he blamed college players.

One of my favorite all time US player but I am not impressed at all.

They have said that this U.S. U20 pool was the most talented, ever.
I have seen & heard some comments before the tournament, that suggest not everyone thought they took the "best" players from that pool. Let's see if any changes are made for the WC.

I saw the Aruba game & wasn't impressed with the team performance......They led 6-0 at half time, despite the weak team play (transition from defense to offence & vice versa, as well a finishing). Thought Ramos would use the 2nd half to build on team play, but had the players abandon team play for unnecessary individual displays.

Can you post that article/interview where he blamed college players???

I see where the '13 team finished better in qualifying the last time.....Loosing in the finals to Mexico.

The last time was the last time.

                            This time is this time.

If I am not mistaken, it was Guatemala that kicked the US butt. They qualified last time.

They qualified the last time, 2013. They failed in 2011.
