  • U-20: Did the coach/teacher think, we were competitive?

Jamaica’s Under-20 head coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore says a comedy of errors and poor planning resulted in the failure of the junior Reggae Boyz to qualify for this year’s CONCACAF FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

Whitmore says the junior Reggae Boyz tried their best during the tournament, but this was not good enough to qualify for this year’s World Cup tournament.

He says they have nothing to be ashamed of because the boys did everything they could do to make the dream possible, but it wasn't to be.

    -----------
National under-20 head coach, Theodore Whitmore, says he will not be stepping down, despite the team's horrible performance at the CONCACAF Championships here in Jamaica.

The young Reggae Boyz crashed out of the tournament on Sunday, after going down 2-0 to the United States at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

The defeat was the Jamaicans third straight loss of the tournament. They were also beaten by Guatemala and Panama and earlier drew 2-2 with rivals Trinidad and Tobago.

"I won't be resigning. It is up to the president of the technical committee to decide," said Whitmore in an interview with STAR Sports.

He added that a comedy of errors and lack of planning heading into the tournament resulted in the team's dreadful show.

Let us assume our boys as individuals are not up

to the technical ability of their opponents. Let us take that as a given. How can any coach make the TEAM...a TEAM of such individuals...'go head to head' with opponents superior on technical ability?

I would suggest that we would have to ensure superior physical fitness or at the very least equal physical fitness and be faster in mind and on pace across ground and foot speed.

If we assume that the physical attributes desired above are met...then it comes down to out-thinking the opponents. You need good teachers/coaches to challenge, motivate and get that 'fast on the feet' thinking. The coach has to approach the preparations of the SQUAD/TEAM - all for one, one for all - was per a Mervyn Morris or Inez Carnegie approached my old GP classes. Encourage logical thinking...calmness of and on thought build self-confidence in mental ability/intelligent thought process...develop 'chess players-like concentration and thinking on future moves/moves ahead'.

Those teachers/coaches would engage the students/players in/on thinking of the game that would produce results...good results...successful results...winning outcomes during games!!! ...a squad of quick movers, quick thinkers/good thinkers, problem-solvers who quickly go into action to produce the solutions.

Sure there must be, as time allows, repetitive physical chores/tasks/drills...but most of all the minds must be stimulated to logically solve problems and both deliberately and reflexively act on same.

Accepting the physical tools available, FOOTBALL IS PLAYED IN THE 'HEAD'. There was nothing I saw that suggested those same U-20 players could not have advanced to the FIFA U-20 championships save results that showed lack of teachers/coaches...and work of poor leaders.

Mankine, our brother the late Courtney Livingston, asked, "Who fail the Youth?" ...the answer is, the leaders and teachers!!!

Lets see how the U 17 do , the coach says he doesnt expect to fair as the U20s because of better preparation.
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

He is a teacher so his charges should at least put on display sensible play...or good attempts of so doing!

They should be passing...or attempting to pass...a lot. They should be seen in perpetual motion as individuals and as TEAM. Lot of triangular shapes...such all over the field...both on attack and defense. TEAM work! ...less 'tek im hoone' ...and sing it please? ♫"me and my friend on one-twos to get by"♫ "...to get by"♫

        ...attempts at 'tap-ins'!

...by the way can anyone remember our U-20s attempting TEAM play that could have produced any 'tap-ins'? I can't!!!

Expect Colour's TEAM to exhibit commonsense play...that most beautiful of football...TEAM glorious TEAM!!!

Sicko's take - Jamaica U20 team is bad but so are the others

ONCE again a national junior team has failed to qualify for a FIFA tournament and the football fans are calling for heads to roll, in particular the head coach Theodore Whitmore.

With a game to go against last-placed team Aruba, Jamaica had one point, garnered from their dramatic comeback to draw with Trinidad and Tobago 2-2 in their opening game.

Since then the Jamaican team had failed to score even a single goal and have conceded five, and have no chance of even playing a play-off game before the home fans.

So what you think about a coaches association that set the standards, track stats, discuss matters affecting coaches, deal with coaches education and share resources???

            What a novel idea eeeehhhh?

As bad as the US is, they stand a chance to qualify. If they do look for some changes in their preparation going forward. They will prepare for the World Cup.

They worked hard. ...and you could see some organization and TEAM work. It is the technical quality of the players that often killed them/destroy good moves.

They need a system whereon their best technical players with the good attitude come to the fore.

You are barking up the wrong tree by focusing on Tappa... playing right into the JFF's hands. Seems it's only poor coaching and underdeveloped players unnu ave strent fah

Tappa may be an inadequate coach but that's not the root of the problem

Forget the little branches... get to the root of the stupid system that's failing our youths. Otherwise we'll be having this redundant discussion 20 years from now

So many can't see the forest... only the little trees
