There is no real reason to believe that it would. It would probably go to Champs or some other popular youth event where the sponsors see positive brand recognition!

I think most of us agree that school football is not the primary vehicle for developing a youth system but simply scrapping those competitions is not in itself a solution to the problem either.
Nothing is certain. But don't you think if the best players were on some program, playing in a league where the best local talent is on display, you don't think sponsors would consider getting involved? As things stand right now it isn't going to work. Why? ISSA and JFF competing for the same scarce funds. ISSA already have the masses following the schools so of course companies like LIME gonna throw their money at school boy football.

"It would probably go to Champs or..." Since we're speculating here. A decent competitive youth competition could probably benefit as well ...right?

When I worked at JJ I realized a young man who was a decent midfielder. Delivered some decent corners and scored some decent freekicks. Talking to him I asked if he played school boy football. He didn't as he claimed he didn't want to be embarrassed. (No Don1, he didn't attend the noble institution on the hill called YCHS).

This young man won business house with JJ, won St. Ann D1 with 2 different clubs and he played for Brazil in the NPL.

Can you image what could have been possible had this player went to some program that focused on youth development? Can you imagine if Tappa was exposed to some proper youth programs?

I understand there were some resistance upon hearing that the earth wasn't flat .... it took a while for the masses to get on board. I figure it will take some time for people to realize that we need to trod a different path if we want to be serious about int'l football.

"Would love to see the record where you "said this long before"...but no worries"

That goes all the way back to challenge the idea of JFF building and maintaining an academy so you don't have to worry.

done that too. I have no problem with most of what you are also proposing, my problem is we have a lot of backward thinkers and deadwood in football in Jamaica. They can get ideas and run with it and seek from other countries as well. All I can say is I feel it for people who have to deal with them day in and day out, as Peter Phillips said recently "everywhere you go maca juk you". If you think everybody a yapper so be it.

Lazie;506522]Nothing is certain. But don't you think if the best players were on some program, playing in a league where the best local talent is on display, you don't think sponsors would consider getting involved?
LOL! This is already happening. Currently the best local talent plays in school ball... and sponsors get involved

The challenge is to develop local talent outside school ball since clearly it's mediocre to horrible.

That challenge is for the JFF to solve. Unfortunately it hasn't and doesn't have a clue how to do so

As things stand right now it isn't going to work. Why? ISSA and JFF competing for the same scarce funds. ISSA already have the masses following the schools so of course companies like LIME gonna throw their money at school boy football.
The JFF gets sponsor dollars for the NPL and other programs that it runs...including hiring Jeezas at undisclosed millions/year

ISSA gets sponsorship for school football, track & field, basketball & cricket... For schools this merely underwrites the cost of gear with a big corporate logo in front...(Well JC won US10K I think along with that Lime trophy)

Alumni money hires coaches, trainers, maintains fields, ground staff, buys gym equipment, acquires nutrition support, physios, doctors, transport etc... Collectively that's MUCH more than the sponsor spend.

Most of this ISSA sponsor money goes to underwrite ISSA costs & company product promotion via ISSA competitions.
Virtually NONE is spent on development.

Virtually ALL school athlete development is done by alumni who raise funds to support their schools....or give voluntary service. So is it alumni that you wish to give more??

Brands don't invest big money in athlete development...unless they see an obvious superstar like Hyde.

Again...go talk to the big brands re how you should spend their private money. Good luck wid dat

"It would probably go to Champs or..." Since we're speculating here. A decent competitive youth competition could probably benefit as well ...right?
Yes. But maybe you missed the point that big sponsor money is attracted by eyeballs. Training & Development don't have eyeballs on them. Only popular competition do.

Go talk to Lime, Digicel, Red Stripe etc if you want that changed.. They're the ones with big money

Ann D1 with 2 different clubs and he played for Brazil in the NPL
Nice personal anecdote... We all have 100s of these tearjerkers about wasted talent

Can you image what could have been possible had this player went to some program that focused on youth development? Can you imagine if Tappa was exposed to some proper youth programs?
Yes we can imagine. JA would easily be competing at the top of the CONCACAF ranks.

This is why we need a football academy....or 2

I understand there were some resistance upon hearing that the earth wasn't flat .... it took a while for the masses to get on board. I figure it will take some time for people to realize that we need to trod a different path if we want to be serious about int'l football.
Some are long past merely realizing that things need to change. Instead of bellyaching about problems... We offer workable & affordable solutions
