The fact is coaching in Jamaica is mostly a “eat a food” phenomenon where some is employed for 3 to 6 months. Very few coaches plan and build a roadmap. There is hardly any space or time for development as clubs and schools go to win. This mentality has to change, it was better but everybody now just take the EPL and other shortcut to victory not realizing that these teams have staff in place other than head coach. Very few teams now you see build and come through the ranks with a eye catching amount of youngsters.
Jamaica has a fairly decent amount of coaches. Why don’t we have a coaches association???? That meets and discuss matters that affect them and football and address them?? Why don’t we have a general annual meeting for coaches and have workshops with experience people?? It is always easy to point to someone else.
Nobody employ a coach to lose. No matter what team it is, they are employing a coach to win. Jamaica is a unique place to coach if you don’t have the money you have to find ways around to improve your team. Imagine if Franno and Mills had waited on JAAA. The Premier League teams were disappointed with JFF leadership and support so they form their own organization and although it is rugged so far it is better than what they had and most clubs believe they have a say.
Jamaican coaches need to re-stock, educate themselves and take some responsibility or they will always be a liability to the sport. One thing about most good coaches, you never hear them complain about their squad, instead they try and make it better, because they know at the end of the day that is their duty and their responsibility.
