  • Portmore United & Portland Timbers......

Earlier this year Portland invited Portmore to play in their pre-season tournament, does anyone know if the ownership/management of Portmore sought a professional partnership with Portland???
If Portmore did, it could mean big help for the development of their young players, as yesterday Portland Timbers announced the formation of their own USL Pro team for the 2015 season.

you sending mix messages. "How can we depend on others to develop our kids" That was your message when I spoke about getting more kids in college with a end game been more professional players. They would also play in the USL.

No mix message.......It's not the job of academic institutions to develop soccer players. Their primary job is to provide these youngsters with an education...........
If one of your sons was a very talented musician, would you send him to Julliard or NYU to develop his talent to become a professional musician???

What if he doesn't get in, does it mean he is not talented??? or do you try alternatives.

How many sports professionals have college developed??? Even soccer players. Even if education is the primary job. You think colleges invest billions in sports because education is their primary goal?? Think again, you use the college and the college use you. Nothing is wrong with that, it is the same end.

Football (American football) & basketball is where colleges & NCAA generate REAL revenue. Soccer & the other sports are second tier and beneficiaries of the success of football & basketball.

You must be a NCAA employee, because you're just as vague & evasive as their executives and you ardently support the status quo.

None of the above, however I played college and I have a few good friends coaching college ball. Also worked at one college and work with players.

The fact is soccer is headed in the right direction but again the NCAA will always be a part of the picture. They will not fold and some are even trying to ramp up their programs too. They will always make themselves relevant, believe it or not. You don't think Akron benefitted from winning national championships? or a college benefit from having Clint Dempsey or Yedlin been a graduate????

...and if he failed to gain entry to Jilliard or other college where music is a focus?
