So in the last nine transfer windows Brendan Rodgers has bought maybe one holding midfielder who is the same bloke who had left before he got to Swansea. According to wikipedia, in the summer Swansea were promoted to the Premier League Brendan Rodgers bought only one midfielder. Wayne Routledge. He isn’t a central midfielder. The summer before he bought two midfielders. Scott Donnelly, who got one appearance and now plays for Havant and Waterlooville and Kemy Agustien who is now at Brighton.

Here comes the controversy. Steven Gerrard can not play the holding midfield role. There I said it.
Gerrard has decided he wants to end his days at Liverpool by being Xabi Alonso. That is not a bad thing to want and he’s very good at it, but Alonso very rarely plays the holding midfield role on his own, and when he does it is usually in a team that is significantly better than the opposition and therefore can get away with it. That is perhaps why it gave the false impression of working for us last season. Gerrard played some fantastic balls, he got some excellent assists, he scored some vital penalties, but I cannot think of a single game last season or this where we won ‘because’ he was playing as a lone holding midfielder.

Where I disagree with them is Lucas ,di yute coach hasnt a clue how to set up his defensive midfield to get the most out of Lucas,goes back to tactical acumen, its lacking all across the field.

I will say this , he has the quality of a top 3 team at his disposal , one or two should be sold , or never been sold...Reina for 1.

What we lack is the quality of a top 3 coach.

FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT

The test that faces Rodgers now is the biggest of his career. He has to back himself. He has to get these players to back themselves. In the next couple of weeks you see the return of Sturridge, Joe Allen, Glen Johnson and Martin Skrtel. Half a team. Half of last year’s team. They have faults, but they are players that know this team inside out. You see fixtures get easier domestically, but you know you have to balance it with European nights. This is the test you have been preparing for, you know what you’re going to do. You have a better squad. You could argue that with the additions, we’ll ultimately see a better first XI than last year.

100million plus spent, how to qualify for a top 4 or win a trophy? coaches with less have done it at pool and other clubs . It cannot be he fails because of one holding midfielder, thats the scape goat, although glaring he failed because of.........lol
