  • Is the JFF and PLCA at war vis-a-vis 5th columnist Party

The PLCA, which is made up Jamaica's top football clubs, has for seven years run the island's most significant football competition, very much in the manner of the English Premier League, having wrested its management from the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF). The PLCA has brought significant sponsorship money to the league - certainly more than when it was under the administration of the JFF.

For those seven years, the PLCA has been under the chairmanship of Edward Seaga, the former Jamaican prime minister, who is also president of the Tivoli Gardens Football Club, based in his former West Kingston parliamentary constituency.

There has been a lot of expressed interest from parties - both local and overseas - who want to be franchise holders in the new system being proposed by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).

This, as the JFF continues to proceed with their ambitious plans of overhauling the way club football is played in Jamaica by introducing a franchise system that will result in a move away from the current league system.

This is according to JFF President Captain Horace Burrell, who, at the launch of the LIME Super Cup, revealed that football's governing body will be proceeding with plans to put in place a new system of operation about a year from now.

...and the transparent quantifying of that "wide interest"?

The JFF has always had a problem with credibility. Stating there is "wide interest" without supporting set of facts does not represent steps towards convincing that there is as fact "wide interest".

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has strongly denied suggestions that it has played a part in the current impasse between several clubs and the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA).

Arising from the disagreement, Montego Bay United, Sporting Central Academy and Cavalier all threatened to withdraw from the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) until issues surrounding the running of the league, as well as the corporate governance of the PLCA, were dealt with

Returning Montego Bay United Football Club (MBUFC) president, Orville Powell, has called for the resignation of Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) general manager, Andrew Price, for what he believes is a clear conflict of interest, as the stand-off between several clubs and the league administrators took another turn.

Powell's MBUFC was expected yesterday to withdraw its threat of not playing any games in the competition until concerns about the governance, transparency and leadership of the Edward Seaga-led PLCA were addressed.

BURRELL... has recognised role of Seaga in increasing the level of sponsorship of the league SEAGA... accused JFF of interfering in running of Premier League

IN light of recent comments attributed to the chairman of the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) Edward Seaga, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has issued a strongly worded release, blasting accusations of them interfering in the running of the top-flight league as "unfortunate" and "not true".

In a newspaper article published on Sunday, Seaga, also the current head of the Professional Football Association of Jamaica (PFAJ), said the rift between the PLCA and some of the Premier League clubs was part of a power struggle.

If the JFF is about developing JA's football and thus a...

...viable football industry why is the JFF not working with the PLCA on assisting that body to improve on its stewardship of the NPL. It should never be about wrestling the NPL (top flight club football) ownership from the PLCA but about helping in every which way possible to improve that product.

That talk of the JFF going down the path of the USSF/CSA or The FA does not hold water. ...both those entities have given great latitude to the MLS and EPL to administer and operate their respective leagues.

It appears that the JFF is not about assisting or cooperating to foster growth and development but about subversion...wrestling control of the premier football league in the country away from the PLCA through creation of new entity or entities.

              MLS

Major League Soccer (MLS) is a professional soccer league representing the sport's highest level in both the United States and Canada. MLS constitutes one of the major professional sports leagues of the United States and Canada.

Instead of operating as an association of independently owned teams, MLS is a single entity where each team is owned and controlled by the league's investors. The investor-operators control their teams as owners control teams in other leagues and are commonly (but inaccurately) referred to as the team's owners. The league's closed membership makes it one of the world's few soccer leagues not using promotion and relegation, which is uncommon in North America.

The clubs elect a chairman, chief executive, and board of directors to oversee the daily operations of the league.

The Football Association is not directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the Premier League, but has veto power as a special shareholder during the election of the chairman and chief executive and when new rules are adopted by the league.

The above is a separate issue.
That is about the management structure and operations.

The original post - the topic of the thread - deals with replacing the PLCA with independent owned franchises....not merely a change of name.

Frankly, the PLCA structure should be strengthened whereon there is one ownership structure as per MLS or a ownership/oversight model as per the EPL. Resources can then be better pooled such that focus on viability of a single entity lead towards accural of benefits to all parties - investors, other stakeholders...Jamaica's football.

The current fragmentation of effort has the various clubs in the 'crabs in a barrel' syndrome.

There is an article insinuating that the defending champions were acting with support from the JFF of which the club denied, take it with a pinch of salt,i would not expect them to admit it.

Really odd that PLCA has garnered immense sponsorship under Seaga and the JFF floats the franchise idea out of no where, where was it ,when they had control of the league.
