Eddie Johnson was the only starter on the team that played and it was because he was suspended in the MLS. It is pretty much a reserve teD.C.
United lineup: Willis; Caskey, Opare, Shanosky, Attakora; Porter, Neal, Jeffrey, Martin; Estrada, JohnsonamLast edited by Assasin; August 22, 2014, 01:14 PM.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. There is a big difference playing your first team and second team and you know that. To use that to judge the close victory Mo?? Yes Waterhouse is in pre-season but DC using only one starter says a lot. Many of these players haven't seen a MLS pitch or have very few games. To act as if any gap is closing base on this match is wishful thinking.Last edited by Assasin; August 22, 2014, 01:42 PM.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. It was United's bench and they looked like a bunch of MLS benchers. Fit players with poor technical skills. As has been the case with Johnson for a while, he looks like he want to be anywhere but on the field. He should go to Jamaica. He would fit in well in our local league with his temper.
Vincent Earle didn't show he is a general. he showed that he is a scrimmage player, whose movement off the ball does not match his movement with it. Could have had quite a career if he left the island early in his life.
Campbell is good, but doesn't cover much ground. I am not sure if he will ever be a professional player in a decent league without more movement. I thought the defense did a decent job. Taylor did a very good job in central defense, Finalyson had his moments and the two wingbacks did better than I expected. The two youngsters in the attack/midfield need to to focus a bit more on baisc technical training. Spoon was ok, but should have done better on the goal. he is a also a good distributor but seems set on going to the opposite extreme of Ricketts by trying the most complicated kicks possible then messing them up.

Sass, I am not sure how to assess who has the advantage. Less than a month ago, WHFC's best player was beating up a side 10 love in a Bush league competition in NY. Their second best player missed 2 years of football with a knee injury. He still wears a bandage on it while playing. We could compare their salaries as we do in Europe. I bet these reservists' weekly salaries could pay Waterhouse players for the entire year and have change to spare.
Lest we forget, Waterhouse beat Tauro of Panama in Panama. I guess they are yet to unleash their big boys too, huh?!
No, I'm not defending Waterhouse. I'm shooting down idiotic talk that we like to raise far too often.

The fairest criticism by far!
Johnson would struggle to get a game with a business house team in Jamaica. He's that bad!
I'm surprised that we got that much out of Earle after playing so little football over the last 3 years. Yes, he was not perfect, but he was clearly bossing things in midfield.
Yes, DC United looked robotic, but it was a robotic move that gave them the goal. Did they take another shot for the entire match?

Most of these reserves are making 35k to 60K a year which is just a living wage for most of them in DC. This is far from their best team.- Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. I don't have the analysts eye like some...but from what I saw WH was the better TEAM! I didn't check to see who was playing on either side as I don't know the players well, if at all. WH did not look out of their league by any means... if that was DCs bench and in spite of their victory, (based on THIS performance) it indicates that WH would be somewhere at a level above a weak or weakened MLS team ... in other words, they could compete!
My take on what I saw.
BTW, I was watching but fell asleep... not because the game was boring, but I was genuinely tired and had imbibed a few...Peter R

Thanks, Peter R. I agree with you - bench or no bench, Waterhouse did not look out of place at all, despite playing only their second competitive match in months!
And I repeat, the bench defence is a poor excuse for DC's ordinary showing. These are professionals playing against bush league ballas who from one week to the next may not know where their next meal is coming from.

Our players should look good against any MLS bench.
I don't even know if you can call some of those DC United players professionals LOL. A man earning 36,000 before tax in Washington DC is not much better off than his Fiyahouse counterparts unless him live with him parents.
