  • Tivoli Gardens FC to pull out of 2014-15 RSPL?

It appears Edward Seaga has resigned as president of the PLCA.

This sends a bad signal to the rest of the league.

    What next?

Says he cant get the required sponsorship funding. Sad, not good for the community. I hope this is a move on his part to spur sponsorship.

It was suggested by a forum expert that NPL clubs like Tivoli should "pool money" to raise the US$100+ Million required to form a MLS franchise

That was a particularly brilliant idea

Mi know. But people used to say from long time dat is Dudus sponsor TGFC.

This is not a good situation. Tivoli is a successful club with a decent...a large fan base. I know other clubs are struggling and Seaga may have just beat them to the punch, being the financial wizard that he is.

The clubs in Jamaica behave as if they are all rich they could do more to maximize their earning potential.

                  1. They must wake up to the reality that they are all pauperized!

                  2. Stop being in the way of transfers of their players. They should be open and receptive to 'expert advice' on placing of players with a look to the future...future income.

                  3. They must pool resources - 'brain power & financial resources such as it is.

Just those 3 would make a tremendous difference on improvement of possibility of being viable as commercial entities.

We talk it as if the MLS is just selling franchises to any and anybody. The MLS have controlled the expansion of the league very carefully that even a number of cities in the US who would want to acquire a franchise cannot get one. I could give you six cities off the bat right that would be ahead of a Jamaican team for a MLS franchise.

I am sure that any further expansion, they would look to the more lucrative US markets with the crowd support and better facilities etc to give a franchise. Also, it is a strain on local teams to travel for a few CONCACAF Champions League games, can you imagine traveling all over the North American continent for matches by such a team out of Jamaica.

I think the next league down to the MLS (NASL or USL) have shown its willingness to accommodate teams outside of the NA continent. We may not be interested in playing at that level however. Also, acquiring a franchise in the NASL/USL would be less expensive than the MLS.

All that plus, specifically, they must put some serious thought and action into marketing.

The only thing that can save the MLS is a Franchise system properly put into place and some of the teams managed by business people and proper management.

Now two of the potentially top clubs in Tivoli and Portmore out.

There is no economic or football related reason for MLS to even consider a JA team... that was one of the more ludicrous of Jawge's ideas. It would have to be a MLS Affirmative Action Program to be doable

As to NASL & USL... even if JA could raise the franchise fees it would still be a losing affair with zero investor incentive. Every away game would involve foreign travel, hotel etc. Plus those leagues are 3rd rate and don't have much TV or merchandizing revenue

I don't know why people entertain bankrupt fancies about MLS franchising, foreign Reggaeboyz to Watch etc when the answer to JA football obviously lies FIRST & FOREMOST in an affordable, effective development system back-a-yard. It aint rocket science

                            Very strange
