  • Investing in the EPL - good or bad? Changes at the top?

Disclaimer: Attacking me on the headline will not get you anywhere - all I’m saying in it is that the Liverpool takeover leaves Arsenal will the least amount of transfer funds next summer out of the top four clubs.

With the terms of the deal accepted by the liverpool board, the takeover (and further transfer speculation) is a mere formality.
This leaves us with a very interesting situation in the top tier of the Premiership.

Chelsea have Roman's billions, and the effects of wealth have been immediately evident on the pitch. manchester United’s takeover left the club in debt but much of the hoohah surrounding it was (and is) trash - the club has deeper pockets than before and because they will be financially prudent as well, it points to a increased buying power than before.

Liverpool, with a proposed new stadium and increased transfer funds, will be looking to firmly place themselves in between Chelsea and Manchester United - and unlike United’s takeover this one is expected to be much more pleasant (unless there is debt involved) and quite ironic (remember how Liverpool fans were bashing Chelsea?).

It does, however, leave Arsenal as the odd club out. There have been rumours that Arsenal will be bought, but without any confirmed approach speculation is futile. Arsenal have Wenger and his eye for talent but you need to mix that youth with experience, and if Arsenal are going to stick to buying young and cheap, it’s not going to work out that well.

Bottom line - Arsenal will sooner or later need the same sort of money that Liverpool and Chelsea will be playing with, and that might need to come from investment rather than ticket sales and winning titles.
But that’s just the sideplot - the big question is, who’s next?

    Arsenal!

    Let's do this thing ...
Lately everyone has been going on how Arsenal failed this season, but compared to the other 'Big Three' they were fantastic. First, in all competition, look at who they faced while Man Utd and Chelsea have had to deal with relatively nobodies. Yes, Liverpool did face Barcelona, but that was what the only real challenge they beat this season. When you talk about injuries, Chelsea cries when they are missing one man (JT), Man Utd had to go and loan a new striker because Saha had a "cold".

Arsenal has had the longest injury list outside of Newcastle. So is it really that much of a loss when you have guys like Theo, Denilson, Diaby, Hoyte, and the other doing a better job than most experienced players at their positions? The Henry injury I believe is a chance for Wenger to really access his 2 remaining strikers. And what's up with them giving him only 20 million Euros for summer spending?

Robert: A club like Arsenal is used to bringing home silverware. You can make all the excuses you want, but with a big new shiny stadium, the world's premier striker in Thierry Henry, and a roster with such big stars as Tomas Rosicky, Robin van Persie, William Gallas and Cesc Fabregas, to call 2006-07 anything but a failure for the Gunners is not being honest with yourself.

I understand all the reasons that have kept Arsenal from the top this year, but all clubs have to face adversity and stare it down if they want to hoist a trophy.

If Arsenal was so bad off due to all the factors you mentioned above sir, then why were they even in the running for so much silverware this late in the year? What they did was hit a wall at exactly the wrong time, and that culminated in the Gunners' horrible 11-day slide that saw them lose the League Cup final and get ousted from the FA Cup (by Johnny's Blackburn) and the Champions League (by PSV).
Don't worry though, they'll bounce back soon enough with all that young talent.
