  • Brazil? Wen yuh salt, yuh salt! …and the pile on?!

Mervyn Morris calls from the past! – Morning, gentlemen! Brazil’s results have caused wide-spread lamentations. Why?

    Group

    v Croatia: Brazil scored 3 goals to Croatia’s 1

    v Mexico: 0 – 0 draw

    v Cameroon: Brazil scored 4 to Cameroon’s 1

    Round of 16: A 1 – 1 draw with Chile after Extra-time and advance on winning the Penalty-Kicks shoot-out.

    Quarters: Brazil’s 2 goals to Chile’s 1 win.

Semi-finals: A Brazil’s 1 goal to Germany’s 7. A hammering…but take a look again at that match and number of Brazil’s near misses particularly in the first 8 or so minutes? …a bounce of the ball here or there…and...?

3rd place play-off: A 0 – 3 loss to the Netherlands.…but 3…yes 3 penalties not given. …and numerous Oscar crosses just missing a touch on goal. …and what do the stats tell?

    http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/round=255957/match=300186502/statistics.html

Gilberto Silva is correct a cooling off period is needed. He suggested that a careful review of the situation before acting on ‘fixes’ isneeded. Rushing into hasty actions may not be wise.

…by-the-way: In matches Brazil played the manner of play all are agreed was ‘not Brazil’.

…but could it be the comparisons if not made against expectations viewed within context of memories on specific Brazilian TEAMs of the past but within a background of TEAMs that strived to attend at this World Cup 2014 and failed to make it…and indeed, total performances of TEAMs at this World Cup, the sinking into despair would have been not as deep as suggested by the images of weeping Brazilians displayed on our TV screens and the screaming headlines in the print media?

Mervyn Morris would leave such a GP class with such a question lingering in minds as logical responses to what had unfolded during Brazil’s performances were internalized and discussed. One thing most would formulate –The utterances by some that Brazil’s football has gone to the dogs is an over-reaction. Nothing could be further than the truth.

Too many poor touches by the Selecao.
Ah wha? Is like nuh skill ballers left in Brazil?

Look at the Argentines and their ball control abilities? In the past Brazil was known for absolute ball control.
