    KSAFA to grant general meeting

    LeVaughn Flynn, Staff Reporter

Ambassador Stewart Step-henson, president of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association, said a date for the general meeting with all of its affiliates will be decided on next Thursday at its council meeting.

Stephenson said the general meeting will be held within two weeks of the council meeting.

    clubs' request
Five clubs - Whitfield Town, Bull Bay, New Kingston, Olympic Gardens and Brown's Town - signed a letter dated May 4 requesting a meeting with the board of KSAFA and all of the clubs to discuss the running of the secretariat, sponsorship of the top three leagues and the viability of the clubs.

A response was written by general secretary David Hunt shortly after informing the clubs that they would be notified when the meeting will be held, but the clubs have grown impatient.

"We need to know what's the position with the sponsors. Are they pulling out?" said general manager of Bull Bay, Kenrick Barnaby.

"The office is understaffed and it results in problems where information such as ineligible players takes long to be processed which leads to them playing when they shouldn't" said Mark Bennett, president of Brown's Town.

Stephenson said it is a possibility Jamaica National, sponsors of the Super League, Major League and Syd Bartlett League, will not be back next season, but that replacements are being pursued.

"JN have given us notice that they will be reviewing the sponsorship and we are already speaking with two other potential new sponsors," said Stephenson.

    smooth sailing
On the operation of the office, Stephenson said: "Interestingly people have complimented our running of the office. However, one of our senior employees left and we are currently looking to fill the post of KSAFA co-ordinator."

Stephenson expressed surprise with the impatience of the five clubs that signed the letter as he says it is customary for KSAFA to have a general meeting with all cubs at the beginning and end of every season. He added that their request for a meeting would coincide with its usual meeting at the end of the season.

    discussing issues
Stephenson said in the interim the association has been holding smaller meetings with the clubs to hear their suggestions and grouses.

"We felt it was important to meet with clubs in smaller groups because some clubs normally dominate the meeting and the issues of others are not heard," said Stephenson.

"The meetings were successful, we had a lot of suggestions and feedback."

Stephenson pointed out that suggestions put forward by the clubs would be addressed at the council meeting on Thursday. The president said invitations were sent to all the clubs from those participating in the National Premier League to the Syd Bartlett League, but according to him, "not all of them turned up."

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
